Finally a 78 750k
« on: October 03, 2016, 05:40:37 PM »
I would like to intrudes myself, my name is Thomas. I have been riding one thing or another since I was eight years old, I'm in my thirties now. I had always planed on building a 750, I never would have thought I would start with such a mint bike, but that's how it happened, so no complaints.

I got a great deal and I should have it in my hands tomorrow, its on its way to me as I type this!

Welcome aboard. I hope you did get a deal, if it runs well you should come out all right. Not sure what you mean by "mint", since there are a few things missing:

>Front and rear fenders
>Tank badges
>Chain guard
>Sidecovers
>Centerstand
>Rear footpegs
>Stock seat
>Stock handlebar switches
>Speedo/tach/instrument panel
>Stock headlight brackets
>Front and rear turn signals
>Stock airbox
>The carbs are not original for a 78'. You might check the engine numbers and verify that the engine is a 78' motor.

It looks fairly clean, and none of the items listed would necessarily be a problem. I am surprised at the lack of turn signals, and the pod filters can be difficult to tune, but again, if it runs well you should be all right.

I may have a skewed sense of mint to some people haha. I would have removed 90% of the stuff mentioned in the garage the first night if it was stock and mint. You seem like a wealth of knowledge, can't wait to pick your brain.

After many hairy scary moments on bikes without winkers, including near-miss broadsides, being overtaken as you're moving across a lane to turn, causing havoc at busy intersections etc, I now fit winkers to all my bikes, even the ones that never had them from new.

Don't know how it is over there, but in the UK little if no time is given to teaching new drivers hand-signals. Unless they're of a certain age, most drivers wouldn't have a clue why the biker in front would be sticking his arm out, let alone making circles with it! Probably think you're waving at them!

Maybe consider again? There are some very discreet jobbies on the market that could just save your arse. :)

Well REALLY the RC 1036 kit was the fastest.......rode one in an Amen Savior frame once way back when.  You could haze the rear tire whenever you wanted, and it was wicked fun to hunt Z1's with it.
