Sirius Consolidated Jet Kit???
« on: June 19, 2012, 08:46:59 AM »
I'm new to this and hadn't heard of Sirius yet.  Hopefully their kit for CB500s is what I need.  Something tells me the jets might end up not being big enough, but I guess its a place to start.

My bike:
1972 CB500
velocity stacks
Motowerks GP Yoshi replica exhaust

Here is what the kit has in it:
Quote
Includes
 4 x #115 Main Jets
 4 x #120 Main Jets
 4 x #125 Main Jets
 4 x #85 Jets

16 jets for Keihin Carbs
8 slide needle tuning washers to raise your slide needle
plastic storage case

questions:
-Should I order larger jets, or hold off?  Will I need to start getting into jets that large?
-What part is the slide needle?  What do the slide needle tuning washers from the kit do?
-I understand I might need to order different slow jets.  Where do I order these?  What sizes should I consider ordering?

I've mentioned in a previous post that I am "carb dumb."  Please be patient with me!

Velocity stacks and if the exhaust does not have a baffle will make for severe lean running with the stock setup, this Sirius set is just a Keyster carb kit with stock jets. Odds are you would be better off just buying larger main and probably larger pilot jets and tuning them in.
If they are Keihin carbs you will need to buy Keihin jets from a supplier.

Dukie,
03ranger is talking about their JET kit, which is simply an assortment of different size jets (four of each) and is a completely different animal than their carburetor rebuild kits.

03ranger,
As for the jet sizing, I'm sure more knowledgeable tuners can chime in here, but I think the 125's are pretty big, especially for a 500.

Why would you need washers for the slide needle if you do not have a 77-78 non adjustable needle?

Do you really want to pay the the plastic storage box?

Beginners get these kits and do not need most of the parts in them.
I would focus on just getting what you need unless this "jet kit" is a better price than buying the parts individually.

I would think that's a good start. But you should get bigger slow jets too. Idk what your stock mains are, but 125s seem like they will be overkill. My 550 has 40 pilots, 115 mains. Pods and a Mac 4-1 and runs great right now.

Pilot jets and slow jets are the same thing, right?

Where is a good place to get the slow jets?  I looked on jetsrus.com, but the model numbers mean nothing to me.  Thanks!!!

If you do not say what year the CB550 was, all the jetting info is useless or misleading to other owners with a different year.

Type 1 and type 2 carbs are different animals.

Yes...slow jets or pilot jets or idle jets are all the same thing.
I like to all them idle jets since they control the idle.

You're right mr lucky. It is a 78 550. PD carbs. Stock jetting was 38 pilot. 98 mains if I'm not mistaken. I got the jets from Sirius. Thats the only place I could find them
