International Four Owners' Association/IFOA
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:44:54 AM »
Back in the Jurassic Period when there was only one modern 4 cylinder motorcycle on the road, the Honda 750, technology had in many cases outstripped the abilities of tire manufacturers, brake pad producers and dealers in their efforts to keep up with the changes wrought by the SOHC 4.

So an organization was begun called the International Four Owners Association or the IFOA. The organization spread information about maintenance, recalls and updates, and had information and evaluations on aftermarket parts. It was the first place to mention the legendary Bill Bowman finned oil pan, for instance. There were chapters across the US, many organized as riding clubs. If there was information you needed on things SOHC4, IFOA was the source. They even had group gatherings where there were workshops on how to properly synch your carburetors and set float levels, a real problem back with early 70's dealers.

With the advent of the Kawasaki Z-1 the IFOA, previously all Honda, tried to include the 903 clan, but that didn't work to IFOA's advantage and it dissipated into oblivion. But since it was the direct forebear of this very website I was wondering:

Are there any IFOA members who subscribe to SOHC4?

Maybe you're IT.  Thanks for the interesting history lesson, guessing they mailed newsletters out to spread the info?  Got any old ones to post?

If you need help doing it some of us would be glad to chip in on the work to get the good old school information disseminated.

I've got access to a scanner with an automatic feeder that emails me the digital copies once complete (means I don't have to sit and scan one-by-one). It'd require me getting the original folder, but you might deem that better than doing it all solo.

Had some health issues (real ones) to deal with, but I will start searching out exactly where the heck I put the binder.

I'll start with a scan of the IFOA patch ASAP.

Welcome back, I'm sorry to hear of your health issues but glad you are well enough to revive this thread. My offer still stands on scanning if needed. I look forward to seeing more of what you have.

I have a vague recollection of the IFOA,  I worked in a Honda/Yamaha shop but  had a Yammie for a street bike so I never paid it much attention.  Would definitely be interested if you have the time to post
