FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Left my camera in my friends car, sorry for the #$%*ty phone pics.
I got the motor painted and put back in saturday, its all black with stainless hardware, white valve cover and im still working on the sides, but they will most likely be a charcoal grey metallic. Also, the bottom rear motor mount bolt is way too long now that the pegs aren't mounted to it. Any ideas on what to do there? I'm thinking of running one bolt on either side and the nut will sit in the groove of the motor, kinda like the front right side mounting bolt works.

For your motor mount bolt, just chop off some old crusty footpegs and use the remaining piece that the bolt goes through as a spacer.   You can grind, file, sand and paint to make it look nice
If it works good, it looks good...

Also, here's an idea of how the exhaust will lay out. Im pretty happy with it. Now I just need to clean the crust of it and paint it haha.

A couple of years ago I went to a small vintage Japanese bike show/gathering on N 14th street in Brooklyn.  If it's a recurring thing, your bike would fit in very well there once it's finished.

EDIT: OK, it wasn't all Japanese.  It was organized/hosted by NYCVMS.  Website here, no idea if they're doing it again this year or not.

Cleaned up and painted the swing arm and rear wheel. Eventually I want to re-spoke with new spokes and paint the rims / hubs black. Still have to get a couple things like tires, battery, and a couple other little things. Next i'll have to do some more work on the exhaust. I ran into a little issue with the shifter side linkage... Running a straight piece is a pretty hard angle, it works fine just looks a little weird. So I bent up another piece I had to contour the motor which looks better and has more foot clearance, but on downshifting it flexes a bunch and hits the frame. So I'll have to figure something out there.

That might do the trick, I was also thinking I could weld some kind of guide to the frame where it flexes, so it wont have the chance to flex at all. It's just threaded rod ran though an aluminum sleeve. Steel sleeving might even help out. I'll take some better pics of it this weekend when I get back in the shop.

I got the exhaust painted and temporarily mounted. The phillips head stud screws for the flanges were in bad shape, and generally a pain in the ass, so I ordered some allen head screws that will replace them.

Be carefull, going from phillips (actually JIS) to allen head can lead to thread stripping - you are able to apply much more force with allen wrench.

I got the exhaust finally mounted up with new flange screws, the allen heads are much easier to work with. Finished painting the clutch cover, and other little bits. Sealed the tank with kbs gold standard, was pretty easy to work with.  Just ordered some new fork seals, gators, oil pressure gauge, so I should have all that buttoned up by the weekend.









Found this written under the clutch cover, thought that was pretty cool...

Thanks man. The brace is fairly easy to make, tried to make it like the hoop braces they sell for xs650's. Where abouts in Brooklyn are you?
