Got back safe and sound a little after 8:00 P.M.

Just over 350 miles with GZ up to Hazelhurst yesterday with anothe 350+ back home today for just over 700 relay miles. Good to have some time to sit and meet with other members Bill, Adam, Vern, and Mark.

Even met the chattiest local resident of Hazelhurst!

Sounds like an excellent way to start the rally!  Glad you all had a good time and that you arrived home safely!  Thanks for all you have done to get GZ v3 off to a great start!

Excellent! Glad y'all arrived safely! Contact me on these pages to see how you prefer to hand off. Hoping one or more of you can share the ride. If not, I can run out there Tuesday for the pick-up.

I'll work with Wednesday for the Birmingham leg. Weather is tolerable and the CB is gassed and ready.

Even met the chattiest local resident of Hazelhurst!

And we all learned from that local resident that the only thing wrong with Georgia is Atlanta!  And the last time it was good was in 1864.  Quite a history lesson.;D

Hey team 1, nice job on getting the rally rollin'!  I was hoping whoever kicks off the ride reports would do so by starting a "riders log" thread in the 2013 world tour section.  That way our stories won't get lost in individual team sections.  Hope you're all havin' a great ride!

Definitely on the to-do list. When I get my write-up done I'll start one, unless someone beats me to it.   8)

We'll have some monster movement this afternoon.

I'll be meeting Bluzeboy at 3PM today in Stone Mountain for the transfer. Monster will make it back to Douglasville for a short stay by dinnertime - that is if I can survive the I20 corridor in rush hour on the 550. Lower gears save lives.

Ongoing - monster leaves here Friday morning to meet our connection in Leeds, just east of Birmingham. Should arrive a little after lunchtime. That 's the plan.

Out of here in 90 minutes for the 90 mile round-trip shakedown.

5PM - Back Home.

The ride was about 75% super slab - small bike for I20 and Atlanta speeds. Did well but it was a battle. Met Vern - great guy - fantastic 750 and an early model to boot. Some quick pics and we were off - him to work and me to beat rush hour. Mounted the monster on top of the headlight - single bungee supplied by Vern and now part of the "package". Was warm enough to remove a glove layer but the wind returning was worse than going - man! Hugged a few trucks - yeah, bad thing. Got off on Lee Road early to enjoy some local twisty roads and home by 4:30.

Bike lost power down low a 1/2 mile from home. Gee, could it be the DynaS? It's only got 200 miles on it. EMGO coils - lost a coil a couple of years ago and then replaced the second so they're fresh. Will switch to points tomorrow and will check it before leaving Friday.

The monster enjoyed seeing my son's KZ750, terrorized the neighborhood for a spell, made friends with my beagle, and is laying low until Friday. A good day.

How old is the Dyna? A few of the reported failed units had very low miles, but had been purchased a couple of years before they were put into service..

PS Make sure the beagle doesn't mistake GZ for a chew-toy!! ;D

Dyna is only months old. I checked it out. Had the petcock in the opposite so ran the entire way on Reserve. When she felt limp on low RPM - in the subdivision at a corner, I put it in reserve, or so I thought - no better. Just lucky, I guess. I have to verify that was the problem. Fixed a minor fuel leak and she should be ready.

Thanks! Frodo ignores Japanese monsters. Prefers stuffed hedge hogs.

Well, wasn't that - had only 5 cups of fuel left until dry. I filled it and started right up. Runs fine unless I give it throttle - mains - and then she runs like she's only on 2. I have to wait until she cools to pull the plugs for a check. New coils, new OEM plug caps, new DynaS. 9,000 miles on the bike. Odd but she's always been tempermental.

I talked to K3 and he is working to get the miss straightened out.  We will play the hand we are dealt and work out the handoff in whatever way makes the most sense.

Still sounds like a coil or dyna by your description.  My bet is the  dyna.  Mine would intermittently stop working then kick back in for a bit.  Put those trusty points back in and see what happens.

Trust me K3 owner,it's that damn Dyna, I know because my year old Dyna left my ass stranded in Alabama last year with a $180 towing bill! I got smart and went back to points, kept the Dyna coils and it's been over a year since I've had ANY issue with Pandora. It was great meeting you too, what a beautiful bike you have. Sorry about that scary ride on 20, those trucks are scary. Here's a few pics. Have a great ride, I wish I could have joined you, next time!

Well, I may as well move this to the main list while troubleshooting. Zilla is top priority. Worst case, K out in Birmingham has next week available. SOrry for the stalling. She ran like a top when she had to. I'll get her back where she should be.

Tow bill?  I always have towing on my insurance, on every single vehicle.  That's a car, truck and 2 bikes... altogether the towing addition is maybe 20 bucks.  Also, make sure you insure your body more than anyone else's, you're the one on the bike!  Sorry for that thread jack.

Will you pleeeeeeeaaase start a riders' log thread

Down for the count in Douglasville while I hunt carb gaskets. Next week for continuing unless someone wants to come and pick him up and head west. I expect substituting the DOHC KZ is out  ;)  Sorry, gang. At least I am thrilled that I found the source of the rough idle. D7EA to D7ES - big difference. Actually running Champion 810s since there were no DES but they had DEA. Champion has a poor history with me with Ford DOHC so I'll watch 'em closely.

Marc,

Forum member JTB contacted me a little while ago and has suggested maybe he and I ride over Saturday or Sunday and pick him up from you.  I have to check on a couple of things, but thought I'd see if that works for you.  If so, I will see what I can arrange.

Hi Kirk,

Day 3 of the GZ occupation in Douglasville. He's getting a little antsy to get moving. Y'all are welcome at any time so you can call to get my address if you don't already have it. Gaskets shipped yesterday so we can now count on the reliability of UPS to get them here. Carbs are ready for the gaskets and my little 550 will be cleaned and polished - a good thing to do while waiting.

I'll have a BBQ spread ready for y'all when you arrive so you can take a break before heading back out. Home all day so call either number.
