Gotcha - yes, frustrating. Why do emulsion tubes decide to unscrew? Just glad is happened less than a mile from home. Well, she's right now - alternate set of carbs and a little loktite for insurance. By noon Thursday, we'll both be up in Cheaha so things are moving again. Arizona? Heck, it might be Fall before he gets there  ;)

The first time I rode my (then new to me) vfr, it ran like crap between 5 and 8 thousand rpm, no matter what gear.  I took the carbs off, removed one bowl and it was spotless.  The next time I took them off, I removed each bowl.  When I removed the third, the emulsion tube was laying in the bottom.  There's a lesson in there, I think ;)

What time are you thinking to get to Cheaha on Thurs?

Coke,

It looks like GZ will be in Birmingham by Thursday night the 28th.  Easter weekend is no good for me for GZ travels.  However, I could probably work something out for the week of April 1.  Lets see how the handoff goes this week and then work out a plan.

Leaving here at 10. It's 5 hours to Leeds and given the addition of an hour over the line, we'd hit Leeds by 2PM. An hour for food and warmth and it's back the other way.

Google tells me that I cross I20 at the start of the Skyway at the 2 hour point so that's 11AM 'Bama time. Our meet at Rt53/60 corner is two hours after that so 1PM 'bama time.

Makes sense to y'all? Considering the 36° temps for Thursday morning, I'll have a fairing mounted. Sad but needed, at least for the hands. I'll share my cell tomorrow. I'm hoping Cheaha has some cell gain.

jtb - if you want to meet at a specific spot, provide the coordinates and it'll happen.

11:15 at the store at Cheaha.  There is a really good catfish restaurant off of 77 as you come into Talledega from Cheaha, should be about lunch time.  Kirk and I will leave from Irondale around 9:15.

5 hours to Leeds from Douglasville? I think we rode from ATL  on the back road in less time than that. Good luck with that ride and have fun!

Got it - Bunker Loop area. Looks like I ride and look right until I see a house. I'll do that - flag me down if I fly by.

And so, the monster begins moving again after 14 days occupying Douglasville. Sorry, gang - Honda and weather blues. Would have been perfect to have left on day #2.

Alright, leaving here at 10AM tomorrow eastern time to meet Kirk and John in Cheaha at the campground store. Google says 3 hours but that's unlikely the way I ride. Douglasville - Buchanon - Tallapoosa - Cheaha - Heflin - Cheaha.

GZ is ready, 550 has her fairing mounted and tested (came off the old KZ but serves). It will be 35° when I leave but I'm ready for it - lots of layers. Never rode in under 50° before so should be just a little slice of heaven  ;)    Hot coffee first, catfish second for me!

Day 15 of Godzilla Held Hostage. I'll spare the political content.

T-4 hours and still GO. Ain't that nice? Checked my boots and needed Shoe Goo to get the heels back and attached. I guess they're a bit old but they'll make it if the bike will. GZ is sitting behind the fairing so he'll keep warm for the ride.

DynaS back on the bike with a 30 mile shakedown ride but a points plate and wire packed since y'all have me freaking about reliability. It's not like I've not had to do a road side repair but a V8 thermostat or fuel pump and a Honda 550 are two different things.

Alright, a little work in the basement for my company overlords and then we're off! 46 miles from Bluezboy in Stone Mountain and 155 more to Cheaha.

If you have a head warmer for under your helmet that will help with the chill.  We show about 34degrees this morning but warming to the 60s later.

John and I will see you at Cheaha.  Ride safe!

Well, well, well, Godzilla has moved on to Birmingham. The old 550 ran great until about 3 miles from the destination at the Cheaha campgrounds. Started missing on the mains again. Funny, it happened at about 90 miles on a tankful last time as well. Met Kirk on his CBX, John on his CB750, and Cal on his Wing. Cal had the idea that the tank vent may be blocked and he was right. I was embarrassed to see the front tire down to 13 pounds (200 mile son the tire and tube)! Again, Wing rider to the rescue.

Transferred the monster but decided to head back and not take chances. On the way with the gang to a meal, the chain started knocking and I pulled into a school. Kirk noticed that the rear carrier had walked out toward the swing arm to the point where one carrier stud was hitting the swing arm - hence the noise.

I haven't had this hub out since I installed the last tire and that was over 10 years ago.

Assistance in pulling the rear and we could not budge the carrier so, down in Alabama. A Subway meal delivered to the lot, thanks Kirk!, and by 4:45, I was towing my baby back home. More to come when I pull this apart tomorrow, and the front sprocket cover...

Many thanks to a great bunch of guys with real knowledge of these machines. I feel great that I was able to do my part in getting that monster moving again.
