Fairing on a CB750K4
« on: March 31, 2013, 06:34:54 AM »
Wilbur had recommended a Slipsteamer fairing for me to try and so I got one (tall version) over the winter for the CB750K4:

I took the K4 to work yesterday and tested out the fairing at 65-70-75-80 mph and it was very good. No major buffeting that was uncomfortable. No instability in the steering. This was true going both ways (wind direction may have been a factor). It wasnt super windy yesterday so thats another test waiting to happen.

A fairing is not for everyone and I have been looking around for a better option for years but so far this one is doing the job of keeping the wind of my chest. My head is above the fairing when riding.

Hope this helps,
cheers
Andy

I don't like the big bulking fairings either Andy. So this smaller w/shield is a nice opition.

That is interesting, you almost get to have your cake and eat it too. No big bulky fairing but a decent windshield. Not my thing, that one in particular but it is pretty cool nonetheless

I'm glad it worked for you. I, too, liked the all clear acrylic since you can see-through all parts of the windscreen which I think helps prevent it from overpowering the front of the bike since you can still see everything. I find that by just knocking the blast off my chest at highway speeds makes for a much more pleasant ride, especially for the longer stints in the saddle. For me, this type of windscreen combines form AND function, and they are relatively inexpensive. Your tall version doesn't look that much bigger than the one I'm using:

and will likely be my first choice for the next project bike. I like the hand guards you're using too, I've been considering those for really cold weather. Have you got a link for those?

Hi Wilbur,

Well the fairing was based on your recommendation and it was relatively cheap to try out. So far its working out for me and Ill see how long Ill keep it when the weather gets warmer so thanks again for the help. The hand guards are Barkbusters and I got them from Twisted Throttle (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/brand/barkbusters/). They were not cheap but they come in very handy in the winter (when combined with heated grips). They have paid for themselves over the last few years since I have had them. I usually take them off in the Spring.

cheers
Andy

I used a less sophisticated version on my 550 riding around Lake Michigan in 2011. It makes a huge diffeence in comfort at highway speeds.

I put a small triumph fly screen on my 77 last year and noticed a huge difference in the wind hitting my chest during highway rides, makes a bite differance for me.
