I'm about to start placing orders for parts and pieces:

Message me if you have any of these for sale in new or like new condition  8)

Dyna S Ignition
Dyna 5 ohm Coils
Honda OEM (or something as good) carb gasket/rebuild kit
Rubber fitting for the base of the tank (near seat)
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

Now I am looking at Dyna S, C5 as well as the Hondaman setup...

Why are there always too many options to think through!  :(

I'm using the hondaman ignition the C5 looks great to. Kind of depends on your lights and instrument set up. The 550 doesn't generate much electric power and some of the electronic ignitions will tax an already anemic system.

Thanks, but I want to see this project through with this bike.

The triple clamps you are referencing, are those for sale by chance?

They are but do you need adjustable offset. I run them with 30mm offset on my CB360 which seems about perfect.

Progress is slow and steady. I battled with a few tappet covers, but finally for them all off.

Soft metal + overtightened covers = a bad time...

I finally took a proper photo of my workspace with my camera:

Parts on the way:

Dyna 5 ohm coils
HondaMan Ignition
5k ohm NGK plug caps
DR7EA Plugs

Last night I cleaned up and gaps my points, set my timing and adjusted my valves.  Once I rebuild my carbs I should have a healthy bike again!

Standards or minis?

Sorry, Bryan. Last weekend was a bust for me.  I will be around this Sunday and Monday.

I would recommend the ones sold for the CB750 (1969-1975) by PartNmore, #...6823. They are a little higher output than OEM, fit great, and have the same primary resistance to fit the electrical system. These are green.

Welcome great bike here is a link that may help you as it did me. http://www.motopsyco.com/2013/08/09/vintage-piston-valve-keihin-carburetor-overhaul/

That is great!  If I could find one for mine I wouldn't hesitate to try it myself... I have a 1974 which I believe is a different carb than the later year cb550s

I'll be at Jay's either Friday or Saturday.  I just had my GL front re-sprung by Matt Wiley at Race Tech.  If you are not familiar with Matt, he is Race Tech's guru when it comes to vintage suspension.  He often attends vintage racing and consults with racers to make suspension adjustments.  He's based out of Race Tech's Arizona facility.  Let's try to meet up on Saturday.
