Yes I know this, and that is really not a big deal... by your logic anything is overkill on a 550...

Also, saying a member was profiting off me for selling a hard to find exhaust system for a fair price (I even posted a 'parts wanted' ad which is how we got in touch) is a #$%*ty thing to say.  Towards me and the person who offered to sell me the exhaust.

And again, this bike is not perfect or even close to it.  It's a $1,500 bike, settle down.

Atta Boy! You bought it, you've got a plan, now stick to it and execute it. It is true, that you're starting with a very nice "survivor" but that also means you won't have a bunch rot, stuck crap to deal with. And, you can sell the stock parts off to help fund your bike. I'm torn about your bike and its condition, but I do see the benefit of converting a quality stock bike too.

Me, I tend to locate trashed bikes because I'm going to hack them to bits anyway and in the condition I start with, they're not worth restoring. But rock on, SER! Knowing GV, the 2 of you probably made a worthwhile deal for you both. Universal Karma in tact, and the Force is happy.

Yep!  Heat, lights and even a bathroom with a shower!  Im in LA, so it doesnt get much colder than the low 60's at night ;)

I started the bike up and kept it running for a minute.  I touched the manifolds and 2 of the right cylinders were cold.. I have spark, no fuel...

I pulled the carbs and need to order a rebuild kit.

Damn that looks so nice. I will trade you my 550 for yours. Mine is already converted to 37mm forks, disc rear and cbr rearsets.  I would love a stock cb550. I also have billet triple clamps with adjustable offsets for GSXR forks.

Honda OEM (or something as good) carb gasket/rebuild kit

I'm using the hondaman ignition the C5 looks great to. Kind of depends on your lights and instrument set up. The 550 doesn't generate much electric power and some of the electronic ignitions will tax an already anemic system.

The triple clamps you are referencing, are those for sale by chance?

They are but do you need adjustable offset. I run them with 30mm offset on my CB360 which seems about perfect.

Hahaha ok I guess it CAN get a little colder, but it's pretty freakin nice all the time.  It's 60 degrees today and people are wearing parka's haha

Progress is slow and steady. I battled with a few tappet covers, but finally for them all off. 

Soft metal + overtightened covers = a bad time...

Last night I cleaned up and gaps my points, set my timing and adjusted my valves.  Once I rebuild my carbs I should have a healthy bike again!

These are the ones I ordered.  $122 shipped, I thought that was a solid deal!  I will be in town this weekend also, I am waiting to hear back from Lossa about timing but I think I am going to have them go through my carbs so I might be down in your neck of the woods soon!  Ill let you know!

That is great!  If I could find one for mine I wouldn't hesitate to try it myself... I have a 1974 which I believe is a different carb than the later year cb550s
