CB 750 parts sources, educate me please
« on: November 02, 2016, 03:55:47 PM »
Good evening all,

I am refurbishing a 1972 CB750K and would like to get your collective experience as relates to parts suppliers.

I am aware of the various internet outlets such as vintagecb750.com, etc. Wondering if there is another supplier that you may know of that is worth looking into.

I have seen the youtube videos done by Dino (love to watch 'em) and he does several plugs for "House of Honda". I just happen to live within about a 30 minute drive from that location. Anyone else have any opinions on this place? It would save tne the cost and waiting time of shipping to be able to go there and just get what I need.

As always, advice and opinions are always appreciated. Thanks.

Ive used dime city cycles for aftermarket stuff like exhaust and carb stuff. They also have handlebars and engine gaskets and other things. Try z1 enterprises, ive heard good things about them also and they seem to carry a good selection of stuff. Ive hear vintagecb750 is run by the same people as mikes xs. If thats true i would trust their stuff, since i had good experiences buying yamaha stuff from mikes xs

Here on the left coast, 4 into 1 out of SF has many many OEM Honda parts at reasonable prices. Also David Silver Spares is outstanding in OEM inventory.

Thanks, guys.

calj737,  I have seen several "House of Honda" come up on the internet search. The one Dino was referring to is located in New Rochelle, NY and has been there since 1962. Thanks for the tip.

Stick to genuine Honda parts and you'll save your self time, money and headaches in the long run.

Aftermarket carb kits are the worse. cheap china crap is just that...crap. Dont put it on your Japanese bike.

PartZilla is another good source for parts...

I like sitting in my easy chair, point and click a few times, then the parts arrive at my front door in a few days.

Yamiya has the unobtanium
Cmsnl has a great website
David Silver Spares is good

When I go to the dealer, I first have to convince them that I do have a 46 year old motorcycle that might need a this or a that. Then a return visit in a week +\- to retrieve the part.

I use Motogrid.com to determine factory parts eligibility. I'll grab the part number and have the local Honda dealer add a part or two to their next order and pay no shipping but pay MSRP. You will NOT find many parts in stock. The dealers have to pull from the Honda warehouse then ship to you usually. If there is enough to order to cover shipping with the ~25% discount then I order from ServiceHonda.com and more recently ordered from Partzilla.com. Yamiya750.com is in Japan but I got a really nice price and delivery within a week on main bearings. Plus they will have some other things that may not be  available. VintageBC750.com is probably the most comprehensive listing of off-market/after-market parts.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

For OEM parts prices I haven't found anyone that beats these guys.  Their fiche has been totally reliable in my experience.  If it doesn't say "call for price" it is available.

This Winter I am restoring a CB550 and have been stocking up on parts from the usual sources like DSS and Vintage CB750. I also check Ebay just about everyday with my morning coffee. I just search Honda CB550 -fits and select most recent listings. This gives me a quick look at what got listed the day before. It also eliminates all the "Skull" Products that inundate a search by placing  -fits after the search term, and the whole daily routine takes me only a couple minutes.

It depends where you live. There are tons of used parts sold by US eBay sellers with low shipping costs. Worse for us living in Europe
eBay seller jtmarks77 has good OEM parts

Yamiya750 has nice parts. I complained about the costly new tank sets for CB750 and even worse, the new 4-4. But I gave up and ordered when I was guilty to have modified my CB750 to a horrible look from nice OEM many years ago.
The tank sets are even "cheap" compared with old and rusty tanks sold on eBay.

There are some eBay sellers in Germany too.

I guess it is different to have owned the same CB750 for over 35 years with many memories from the young years.

Thanks, guys.

calj737,  I have seen several "House of Honda" come up on the internet search. The one Dino was referring to is located in New Rochelle, NY and has been there since 1962. Thanks for the tip.

New Rochelle shop is also known as "Honda Bob's".  They've been around forever.  I'm local as well, but don't use them for parts.  Most of the places I purchase were mentioned in this thread - if I need something quick eBay is typically the fastest.  My issue with some of the other sites is that it sometimes (not always) takes awhile to get parts in my hands.

I also recommend ebay seller JTMarks.  After a few purchases I just email him with parts numbers and he provides me with a price quote.  Shipping (to NY) is crazy fast (I think he lives Upstate).  His prices are also more competitive outside of eBay since he has no auction expenses.

This Honda Dealer sells lower than the others but charges shipping to your location. (as do the other Honda dealers)
On your local Honda dealer's website, you can order whatever is available & shipping is free if you go pick it up there.

Don't overlook eBay. I do most of my buying of OEM parts on eBay. Just type "Honda partnumber". Usually the best prices are on eBay, from my experience. Plus, if it's from a seller you're not familiar with you can still buy in confidence because eBay protects the buyer very well. With eBay I usually ask the seller if they have any free stuff lying around. Once I got a zip tie and a paper clip, score!

I've just bought a pile NOS Kawasaki stuff from Partzilla and they were cheapest by far, even with shipping to Australia.... ;)

Well I did sleep with Partzilla's wife, so maybe that's the reason...

What happened to the good old saying "Get your end in, get your friend in"..... ;D 8)

Haha, I've never heard that saying before. I assume that's like Eskimo brothers ;D
