Looking for a new seat cover
« on: November 16, 2016, 12:12:09 PM »
I'm looking for a new seat cover for my 73 750 K3. I know there's a few out there but I assume the quality isn't the same on them all, some are probably better than others. Any one have any recommendations ?

Thanks Dan

As above, that's what i have.  They look great.
But when it rains the seat gets wet inside via the stitches.

Yes that can be a problem, especially here in the UK.

I stopped fitting aftermarket seat covers a long time ago. Now I take the seat to a furniture upholsterer and have him do it for me. The advantage of this is you can specify the material used - most upholsterers have a range of vinyls, from heavy duty to paper thin. You can usually select a finish too, from smooth to grained. I avoid the cross-stitching due to the rain issue. A nice grain, heavy vinyl with piping on the edges looks pretty good IMO, both practical and hard wearing. And it doesn't cost as much as you might think. Something to consider I reckon.

You can line the foam with plastic before installing the cover - that works pretty well at keeping the wet out too.

+1

I wrap the foam with Saran wrap before installing the cover. Keeps the cover from snagging the foam and keeps the foam from absorbing water. I store the bike inside so the only rain it sees is while riding...

which ain't very often!  8)

Dan,

I've used the gumtwo on 2 bikes and the quality is very good.

Is the gumtwo cover  just as the original Honda cover with the chrome trim incorporated into the cover?

No, it doesn't come with any chrome strip - use alligator clips to hold the cover after stretching it over the foam, then you just glue the new cover to the inside of your seat pan, then cut the chrome strip section off your old seat cover, glue it around the bottom of the seat and bend the tabs back in to hold it on securely.

They are not close to OEM quality. They are stitched pattern not heat pressed like Honda. GUMTWO is OK for a cheap cover but I wouldn't use one for a close resto. I've bought the EBAY Pit-replicas from Taiwan and thought they were as close to original as you could get.
