As an aside, I have talked with Bill Hahn Jr., the race announcer, about all of us who have or will have one of JT Norton's fantastic Iconic Sam Green t-shirts at the race, to announce over the PA system a call to gather and take a group photo. Something we can photo shop Sam into and send to him. Bill has agreed to do so, gladly. The thinking is some time Sunday before everything gets cranked up, but is just in the earliest of planning stages. Tribute to our iconic leader and captain of Team Green.

Will there be ISG t-shirts for sale at Valdosta?

What he said.  I don't have one either 😞

Keith, J Frankie, you need to order one through JT Norton on Facebook, here's a link to his page. https://www.facebook.com/jtnorton
About 25 sold to date but times running out to get more done in time for the photo shoot, even Dave Schnitz and Billy Baxter are in on it.
It all started off as a bit of a laugh when I found a press release on line where the CEO of Saietta, the bike I set the new British Electric Land Speed record on called me iconic, haha. I thought it real funny as I have been called some things in my life time but never iconic.
JT Norton picked up on it and before you know it, they were selling like hot cakes, haha.
Here's the finished shirt.

My back and hip pain have eased up a lot but there's still some soreness. I haven't pulled the F model out of the trailer yet to see if I can kick start it without developing pain. I'll do that tomorrow night. In the meantime I've been freshening up a teammates big cc Kaw motor so he can race it in super comp (8.90 index) at the Man Cup finals. I finally finished up tonight and he'll pick it up after work tomorrow. I'll be playing catch up on my own bikes in the next 4 days. I've got to be loaded up Thursday night so we can roll out early Friday morning to catch the afternoon time trials/ qualifying sessions. I've got to repair broken sprocket bolts in the wheel of my top gas bike and install a new axle adjuster. I'll need to do an oil change and pull my slider clutch cover off to check air gap and plate wear. The Honda should just need an oil change and new spark plugs. The wife's bike will need a quick oil change and minor PM as well. It'll be busy this week for me. Dang, I forgot I have a board meeting Monday night. There goes shop time I realm needed😞

FRANK: Keep a check on back and leg pain = mine was a sciatica pain that went away......... very hard on me after I fell  thru a floor at a working fire, into the basement. No Valdosta this fall got things in the oven.   Hey I got those J-MODELS and K'S just sitting on stands = low miles and clean as a pin.

Pops, sounds like I might need to make a trip up your way to inspect those engines. The only thing is if they're as nice as you say, it would be a shame to take a perfectly stock engine that someone could use on a street bike and tear it down just to build a drag bike motor.

Sorry we'll miss seeing you around this season. I doubt we'll make it to the track up your way next year and it doesn't sound like you'll be going to any other Cup races.

As to the pain, its subsided for now but who knows what will set it off again. I've got to set up a doctors appointment. Things like this usually don't fix themselves and I'd hate to have long term problems.

My plan right now is to run street ET on the Honda, top gas on the Kaw and maybe street fighter on my ZX10. I'll make my final decision on Thursday. I'm way down in the points standings in all classes so this year is a total washout in that respect. I'm just going to have some fun. I'll regroup during the off season and evaluate our race program for 2018. Right now my thoughts are to concentrate on local races and maybe hit 3 of the Man Cup events.

Hmmm, looks like my racing plans have been altered 😓. The sprocket bolts broke off at the race in Rockingham the other weekend on my top gas bike. I'm just getting a chance to work on it. I was thinking I had possibly damaged the hub on the wheel and might have issues removing the broken bolts. Turns out I was successful at getting all of the 8 bolts out and only one will need an insert to repair the threads. I got lucky. Unfortunately, the rear torsion sprocket is toast. Split about 5 teeth in half. I've got to now search among my racing friends to get my hands on one by tomorrow night or this one gets left in the shop. Not good for me as I was only a few points out of the top ten in top gas. This might dash my final opportunity to get a top ten plate in any class for 2017😢.

Quick race report from me: Made one qualifying pass in super eliminator class on the 750. Bike ran a 10.54. Not certain the mph. Came back with my top gas bike for Q1. Bike left strong at first but seemed to experience an intermittent electrical problem within the 60'. The problem continued down track sp I shut it down around the 1000' mark. Only ran an 8.60 on the 8.20 index. I decided to forego the next qualifying pass in super eliminator and top gas. I also didn't make the call for the street ET time run. I didn't get much sleep the night before so fatigue was setting in. I'll get back to the track early in the morning to diagnose the problem with the top gas bike. We've got the first round of street ET at 9am so the Honda will be first out. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day.

Made it to round three today and managed to achieve a personal best in each round. Stats by round are as follows:

Round 1: Breakout 12.94 on a 12.99 dial at 100.26 mph. First 12 second time slip and first time reaching “the ton” in the 1/4 mile.

Round 2: Lady luck smiled on me with an opponent almost half a second slower than his dial. He was so far behind me that I chopped the throttle and sat up at the finish line for a 13.05 on a 12.97 dial at 100.39. Might have broke out if I had not let off.

Round 3: My opponent was on his game in round three and ran within .006 of his dial. I pulled two more personal bests with a 12.91 on a 12.94 dial (breakout) at 101.67 mph.

Did I mention the weather conditions are perfect here this weekend? Even if I wasn’t racing I would be happy to be spectating. Good thing too, since I’m now a spectator for the rest of the day!

We just saw Spiderman Larry McBride run 5.67 at 250 mph. Maybe I’ll have my tune perfected next season to run at that level...  :o  ;)  ;D

Pulled a long wheelie off the line in round two making for a late 1-2 shift so I am delegated to spectating yet again. Will be trying to get more practice during the off season.

Sorry I was no show on the Honda today fellas. I decided not to run street ET so I could concentrate on helping a few of my teammates in pro ET. I was also experiencing some discomfort in my back and hip and didn't want to aggravate anything before my round in top gas. That bar bike leaves the line pulling fairly hard with 1.11-1.12 sixty foot times. I ended up giving up the stripe to my opponent and got sent to the trailer. Overall a good weekend for racing. Unfortunately something let go in the motor of the wife's bike yesterday so I've got a lot of work to do when I get home.

SOHC Racers :  This was the first big- BIG race with folks from all over the planet, like the World Finals for IDBA in the 90's at Memphis. Thanks Dave and the MAN CUP OWNERS for putting motor cycle drag racing on the map for three days on my screen........ It was the best I have ever seen and can't wait for DRAGWAY 42 Man Cup race 2018 in my neck of the WOODS.  Sorry not to see Kenny Schwartz 8:20 in the lanes but hope he has a homecoming in Ohio in 2018 as for years IDBA Columbus and Norwalk Ohio was the big races = could Norwalk be the next finest track in the USA to have a Man Cup event ???   It truly was a International Drag Race.

Pulled a long wheelie off the line in round two making for a late 1-2 shift so I am delegated to spectating yet again. Will be trying to get more practice during the off season.

Great weekend overall, looking forward to 2018!

Oh boy, that was a heck of a wheelie but you did ride it out. Might be time for an air shifter and a longer arm my friend. By the way, did you ever put a shift light on the bike??

I'll put that aluminum swing arm in the trailer for you  when I unload the bikes tonight. We plan to make the race in Bradenton in a few weeks so i'll have it on hand in case you come. They are paying $5000 each day in street ET and in Pro ET. Well worth the trip for us.

On another note, it was good seeing everyone at the race. I got to talk to Mike, Keith, Jerry, Kenny and his son.  Bill was there along with the missing link, Trey. I saw Larry Hayes and briefly talked to his grandson.

I know drag racing competition isn't for everyone but I feel with the $2500 street ET SOHC winner bonus, we've done everything possible to give incentive for more people to participate in the Man Cup events. I'm hope 2018 will be a turn around and more will show up in the lanes to compete for that money. If not on a bike, it would be nice if more of our SOHC brothers would try to make an effort to at least come out and support those of us who do race. You won't regret the time you spend being at one of these events and the many people and different types of motorcycles you'll see. The level of competition among the racers is high but professional and friendly. Its like one big family regardless of social or financial status, political preference, religious  affiliation or race. Come out at least once. You'll either love it or hate it!!!

+1 on what Frank says about "just coming to the races". It's NOT like you're going to sit in the stands and ONLY watch races. You WILL be in the pits with the rest of the participants and their crews. They are all friendly and won't bite  ;) Hang with us the whole time. We'll break you in.

Let's see, how many world records/highlights were set?

Larry Spiderman McBride set both ET and speed in top fuel. 258 and 5.68 and did it in 2 separate runs.
A Harley made a 6.02 pass.
Street bikes running 220mph passes.

You guys please add to the list.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
