1973 CB750 Cam Shaft and Rocker arm
« on: May 30, 2018, 06:40:48 AM »
Hi,

I'm rebuilding a 73 cb750 that needs a new cam shaft, rocker arm...  Megacycle quoted me around $1300 for a new camshaft and refurbishing my worn down rocker arms.  Is there another way?  I'm not looking to change from the stock specs, and I want to do it right.  Is this the "Right" way to do this?  Thanks

Holy crap! A mild performance cam runs about $250 new and you should be able to find a set of used cam cradles with rockers and rocker shafts for even less than that. Reach out to member Bill Benton here on the forum and he should be able to hook you up for even less.

CMSNL in Holland sells NEW rocker arm kit for less than 250€! All arms.
Cam close to stock WebCam 41.
Hardwelded rockers not needed for a mild cam.
CycleX sells by WebCam welded rockers for  around $500 /kit.

If you need good stock, find on eBay. I have bought low mile cam, cam holders + all rockers for less than $200, maybe less than 150 too.

Used rockers work fine in most cases. The Megacycle cams get along with them fine. The Webcams: everything else must be near perfect to avoid having valve troubles with them. I have removed more Webcams now than have installed performance cams in my whole life! The Megacycle cams don't cause these issues at all.

They aren't cheap that's for sure.  I think I was quoted $528 for a 125-100 and that's with my core

Lots of money if bike engine is stock, no extra power.
To make it easier to find:
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k3-four-1973-usa_model481/rockerarm_00000kit0005/#.Ww9-CkjRDIU

CX-1 cam  + welded rockers. (I should by NOS Honda for a stock engine with mild cam lobes, no extra spring force)
http://www.cyclexchange.net/camshaftpage.htm

My last engine build with stock power got used good parts found on eBay. The cam holders might be worn too. (cam bearings due to bad lubrication)

Rocker arms unlimited. $249 shipped for a set of 8 refurbished rocker arms. They are on top of a cycle x cx7 cam and being readied to have the ever loving crap beat out of them on the track this weekend. I expect nothing less than flawless performance from the valve train.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.
