Topic: Carb cleaning experimentation

Has anyone here tried submersing their carbs in Evapo-rust to aid in the cleaning?  I have 3.5 gallons of Evapo-rust and a set of dirty carbs that have been sitting for 7+ years.  Hoping one of you have already tried this and would be willing to share your results.

 I would not do it personally but maybe somebody else has. I would be worried about a bad chemical reaction with the pot metal they use on those. There is this stuff in a big metal can called carburetor cleaner that seems to work real well

Not really necessary to experiment.

30 minutes in a heated ultrasonic cleaner will get them as clean as they're gonna get.

Just finished a spare set for my 550K.

Evapo-Rust will remove any rust on the plated pieces, but won't do diddly for the varnished gas or other gunk in the passages. Net-net, probably a waste of time from a "cleaning perspective". Ultrasonic cleaning is by far the best "no touch" method.

Results with ultrasonic cleaner with simple green:

30 minutes max with simple green. After that the parts start to darken.

or use gunk carb cleaner, done in 5 minutes, no darkening...

2 minutes with high pressure cleaner.
