CB750 F2 How to remove air box?
« on: April 14, 2019, 02:16:08 PM »
Hi!
I have had some hints but I'm getting frustrated. I am trying to remove the airbox and it doesn't split like the K's. Not much room to move in there. I need to get the carbs off to rebuild them. I must be missing something? My first SOHC Super Sport. Thanks for any help offered,  Cliff.

Hi Frank. From the parts book it looks like it's bolted together, there's just flat ends showing on the bottom of the box. The guy that designed this must have gone to design the GL1800 air filter system - may he burn in hell.

Thanks Frank. There's a bolt head beside the mounts. I loosened those and low and behold they hold the top and bottom together. Take out the bottom and the top is easy. You put me on the right path! Cheers, Cliff.

Cliff, be careful of the captured nut/threaded tube thingy in the bottom half...the plastic that captures them can round out and then you got a minor headache every time you need to service the air cleaner.  Yeah, why did they get rid of the thumbscrews...
If it works good, it looks good...

Thanks. I'll be careful with it. Took a long time to figure out how to split it.  :-[

Me too, I had one with a spun capture nut, Hondaman said a hot socket will melt in there a ways and hold the nut just in case it ever spins on you. I'd rub a little anti seize there so it doesn't ever do that.

I usually cut a slit in the bottom “captured” nut so I can use a shorty screwdriver to hold it just in case it sticks and spins in the future.  8)
