Topic: Rear Wheel Conundrum

 So I removed the rear wheel on my ‘78 K,  now can’t figure out where all these spacers go. I re-assembled everything the way I thought it came apart, but the spacers provided will not fit between the wheel and the swing arm. Looked at the picture in my Clymer manual and BikeBandit, neither one was any help. The clymer shows for a “F” model, and BikeBandit is even worse. I can’t see all 3 of these spacers fitting between the swing arm axle provision....Sux getting old!!!

There should be a stepped space behind the sprocket carrier between the sprocket carrier bearing and the hub bearing.

Yes 3 spacers , 1 inside sprocket carrier.

Pictures help a lot in this situation. Show us how you have it set up. Do you have the brake plate fully seated?

Outer sprocket side one should set inside the seal and stay there... are you trying to add an extra ?

Before you do more work on the bike remember to take pics before you disassemble something. No kidding...it really comes in handy. I have looked back a few times during builds. Good luck with it.

I still haven't gotten to replacing those bearings and spokes but I'll remember to make some measured drawings of the hub center spacers when I finally get in there.

I need more lockdown time to work on bikes!

I recently changed motors in a 78 frame from a 71 to a 78. When I realigned the wheel I only had a group of washers and spacers to use not knowing what was original. After a few tries using a string to check for alignment I arrived at what is in the pics.

If you have a 78 motor in that , your rear sprocket may have to move out a bit.

It,s now a 78 frame with a 78 motor. When I had the 71 motor in it there was spacers and washers to make it line up. When I put the 78 motor in recently I had a bunch of different spacers and washers to work with, but I was able to line up the rear and front sprockets. As the poster said though the parts fiche's don't seem to give the enough details. I know the washers on mine aren't OEM but it's what I had and it works.
