1977 750K rear rim
« on: April 06, 2021, 07:13:14 AM »
Anybody have a lead on where I can find a new 17" rear chrome rim for a 77-750K? Seem to have trouble locating one.

Man... not easy to find. Had to look at a few places and had to look at different bikes it fits on. Not cheap either!

But found one advertised for a 1981 CB650:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-81-HONDA-CB650-REAR-WHEEL-17-INCHES/264669587228?hash=item3d9f89671c:g:Ge4AAOSwoJ5eb7V3

Good luck!

EDIT: Ignore that listing! Just saw that it's "not straight"! But hopefully you can use the info to find a better alternative.

As an aside, you can use a new 18”, but you will need the spokes and tire to match!

Polished aluminum might pass for chrome?

Or get a 19" aluminum front rim to match! 8)

I just went through this process with my 77 restoration, front chrome rims are pretty easy to find but the rear was impossible - I looked everywhere - if you can find a structurally sound used item there are places which will restore/re-chrome but it will be very expensive and time consuming. I ended up ordering a new correct size 2.5 X 17" DID alloy rim from Buchanan's - they will polish the anodizing off so its silver but it might be hard keeping it that way - I kept the anodizing and used stainless spokes and nipples - it looks quite good and you don't see very much of the back wheel with all those mufflers in the way.

So I found a nice early Goidwing 17": x 2.50 rim, would the stock 77 rear spokes work with it?

They might, but 750A and GL1000 used special domed washers between the spoke nipples and rim. I bought the kit from:

Its a suck it and see as the goldwing hub was a lot bigger the spoke angles may be different as well

Good point there, but nope it's the same rim for both bikes: https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750a-750-hondamatic-1977-usa_model488/rim-rear-wheel_42701371003/

Went with the Hondamatic rim and spokes, can't believe how hard it was to find a replacement rim for this project.
