oooh baby....looks like 10 BIG screws and at least one, maybe 2 or 3 little ones in there too. I'm sure Kit's gonna get well acquainted with your spine.. :D  Makes me feel fortunate that in all my mishaps, I've never had plates and screws. I truly feel for ya bro, you'll recover, but those are the things that make you old before your time. I know you got a good support team, and don't know what I could offer, but if there's anything I can do......sure would like to know where you unloaded tho, I'm sure a few other pdx'rs are curious as well, we'd all like a little advance warning, or places to watch for.... you know, local knowledge and all that....

Ouch  :(  best wishes on the recovery end of things.

Wipe outs like that are always on my mind as I did something similar on my triumph earlier this year.  Hit some rippled pavement while turning left and next thing I know I'm sitting in the middle of the intersection with the bike sliding down the road.

Actually, as I am well experienced with, modern implants don't set off most metal detectors.  I think I've had 1 go off since I got my cyber-parts - and that was more likely my boots than my leg.

Now, bad weather detection, on the other hand, is an old wive's tale about implanted metal that is totally true.

Personally, I'm lucky if I can take two flights of stairs in a timely manner...but that's because I didn't keep up on my PT.  Hear that, cornandp?  Listen to your doctor.  This cannot be over-stressed.

Andrew,
get well soon. There are motorcycles out there that need you to make them cool again. There are too many cookie cutter cafe BS bikes out there.

Earlier this year I had a back injury that I am still recovering from. Despite what everyone says, riding a motorcycle is good for you. In my mind it is like what other people find in Yoga or church. I feel whole, mobile and in control on my bike. Dont rush trying to get back into the shop or onto your bike, do the therapy and excersises everyday.

AND DONT, DONT, get hooked on painkillers!!

Best of luck - Joseph Levesque

frankenstuff, I can't stand the painkillers any ways so there shouldn't be any addiction afterward. Don't get me wrong I like the pain kill part but I can't stand the weird feelings they give me.

Once out of hospital or post operation, i find it easier to manage pain without pain killers, you will also recover quicker without them.

Cornandp,

Sorry to hear of your accident, that's bad.
I'll echo that...Mind your doctors and do your PT and your exercises diligently as they are critical to your recovery.
I wish you a speedy recovery and low pain levels.
Glad to hear your sister got a good outcome on the bike finally. That's encouraging and gives you something to play with when you are healed and lots of time to plan and re-plan and sketch/draw & prepare for the re-build / resurrection of Little Dragon and your Super Hawk.

So the fix has begun... slowly of course.

I just started taking the small damaged parts off one at a time. Clip-ons, master c, headlight, headlight brackets, foot pegs, clutch cable off, fender off, etc, those kind of things. I also started a list of things I will need to buy. My friend and co-worker helped me remove the tank. He actually was the one who yanked the fender off too, I just undid the screws. No one needs to worry about it being to much 90% of the work I did while sitting comfortably in my rolley chair. I skimmed around the bike on it careful to not strain on anything too tight for me to safely pull loose. The dirt on my hands felt awesome, the first real steps for my recovery process IMO. The smile on my face was unmistakeably energetic. I will post pics of the process again like always there probably won't be too many exciting ones for a while since it may be a month before I can be mobile enough to tackle the tank fix/mod.

The "opinion" question of the day...

"Should I wrap the exhaust?"

I hear ya, dude.  My first step to recovery feeling was when I first got to go downstairs and see my bird again.  Lying in bed all day listening to him whistle for me every time I moved was rough.

slow and steady, man - but you already know that.  You have the rest of your life to get back to your rides - but only a small window to heal properly.

Oh, and don't wrap 'em - but that's my personal feeling on the look.

Really sorry to hear about your accident and subsequent surgery. I've had a few myself and agree with the advice that you've been getting from forum members, you must do the physio conscientiously as it will pay big dividends in your future mobility. Get well, keep building and RIDE!!

So I never really liked the first clip ons I made. They where chincy and ugly. They did work really well though. They got all bent up in the accident so I decided to use the opportunity to build them again but this time the way I should have to begin with. Here are the pictures of what I cam up with.
