Anyone interested in a SoCal-AZ meet-up at Joshua Tree National Monument?

I am waiting to hear what the ride dates are for Northern to Central California (Santa Barbara or thereabouts).  I cannot do a ride on 3/23 and 3/24 but am available after that on 3/25 (I will be in Palmdale/Lancaster area on 3/25) or anytime after those dates.  So I am in if it works with the time that I have for the Southern California contingency.
Mooshie, will you be riding your bike to Palmdale/Lancaster? If so, maybe the NorCal/CentralCal riders could ride along, or maybe meet up with you there, as well as any other SoCal riders? From there, you could head east, and meet up somewhere in the desert with the AZ riders.

Hi everyone, sorry I didn't answer earlier.  I am in Palmdale/Lancaster on 3/24 and planning on returning to Santa Barbara that Sunday 3/25.  However, most people may not want to ride on a Sunday because they miss work on Monday/Tuesday.   Who is riding with me?  Or am I going alone? (I'm okay with that if that is what it takes to get it to a hand off)  Are Northern CA riders going beyond Central CA?  Would they prefer to meet in Palmdale or in Santa Barbara or Ojai? (much prettier riding from Northern CA in my opinion)  Are other Southern CA riders joining me?  I would be willing to meet up in Joshua Tree but again it just depends on the date that Northern CA riders are coming down my way.
Sorry for so many quesitons  ;)

Mooshie, I'm in for SF to somewhere sw of LA tbd by money and time. A meetup in Ojai sounds good- I'd like to ride 33 again.
I'm flexible on dates and don't mind meeting up after your trip to Palmdale if it doesn't push things back too far for other riders.

GZ 2.0 is on the move! His bags are packed, next stop Oakland, CA, where he will hook up with lead-off rider geminimotors!

Here's a preflight photo-op, ready to go:

Just trying to put together a loose schedule; any and all input welcome:
Day 1: Geminimotors departs Oakland, heading south, picking up other NorCal riders along the way. (I would recommend Hwy 1 if it's open now) Any riders can turn back when they want, or go as far as they want. Spend the night in Morro Bay, or some other half-way point.

Day 2: Meet up with Mooshie, and continue on to Joshua Tree. At the same time, I will leave Humboldt, and can meet up with Phoenix riders in or near Wickenburg, and head west towards JT. The SoCal riders can do the same,
so we all converge at JT at the end of day 2. Party ensues, we get to meet each other in person, have a good time, etc. (just what the ride was meant to be in the first place ;D)

Day 3: AZ riders (and any CA riders that want to) head east.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

So looking at the newly configured map it seems the kick off date is 3/10 which would put Northern CA in my neck of the woods on 3/11?  Any of those dates work for me.  I will wait for others to chime in and confirm the actual departure/arrival dates and then we can figure out a meet up point.

To clarify a bit: Mooshie, are you indeed available before your Palmdale trip? The start date isn't set in stone- It's a guestimate, and can wiggle as needed. You and Scottly are the hinch pin, and the gateway to several triple digit marathons. Scottly, Mooshie, what is your ideal JT rendezvous date? I'm flexible(unemployed) enough to reverse extrapolate from that. The ride from the SF Bay area can comprise coast and mountains. Hwy 1 is nice, but there's some nice inland routes too.

Mike, what day are you planning on heading out?  I won't be able to make the full round trip to LA, but I want to make part of the ride, maybe down to Santa Cruz way and back.

yes I can ride on any day other than 3/23 and 3/24.  Earlier or later is fine with me. Guess it depends on when we are meeting up with AZ riders in Joshua Tree.  Perhaps we should work backwards from there?

A later date would be better for me, but only because of weather concerns here in my part of AZ; I hate riding in 50 degrees or less. If I could get a support crew to haul me and my bike to Santa Maria, I would consider riding from there all the way back to Humboldt.
Since no riders from NM have signed up, and only one other AZ rider has signed up, it looks like GZ will end up in a USPS box for his transport to TX. :(

Sooo, 3/25 meetup with Mooshie and motor to Joshua Tree? I'm fine with that. It may not delay things if His Lizardship will be crossing NM and TX in one or two days via UPS.

Let's not jump the gun on this, we still have a few weeks to find a NM rider.

Well, looks like I'm gonna have to drag the poor ole girl out of hibernation and put her back together! So long as I don't run into any serious issues (front end is twisted... Points plate is in many pieces, rearsets exploded) I'll be joining Greggo for the ride to Santa Cruz. Any further and my wife will kick my unemployed ass! Bad enough I've had to secretly stack the needed parts over the last few months!!! Think all I need is points and condensers...

So count me in for the moment, I'll update if anything changes!

Well reading about this lit a fire under my ass... Went out and straightened the front end, put in the points plate, grabbed some pliers and bent the old points back into shape and even used the old condensers (which took a good beating) And voila!! The ole girl fired right up! Still have to replace the points (don't trust em) and figure out why the starter is only working half the time. But it looks like I'll be ready in time  ;D

Welcome domer!!! ;D

gemini, do you need more time to get south from Oakland to wherever you meet up with Mooshie? Think about it; depending on your route, you may want 2 days.

Mooshie, CoachDoc in San Diego, and grachman in Long Beach have signed up. (Reply #1 at the beginning of this thread has a team member list, which I'm trying to keep updated) Also, I'm confused about your schedule: if you are heading back to S.B. on the 25th, are you going to turn around and go back towards Palmdale the same day???

Domer- Thats rad. Scottly, It's two days to get to SB or Ojai enjoyably. I've done it before-Even the coastal run from SF to Pismo is a long day. A 3/25 meetup with Mooshie would have us kicking it off 3/22, overnighting in Morrow Bay or Pismo, and again probably in Ventura(Anacapa Brewing Co).
Mooshie- What say ye to a morning-ish meetup? I'll have to defer to you for the best route through or around LALA land.

Guys, I'm confused about the SoCal routing. I had assumed the route was from LA to San Diego and then turning east to Phoenix. Now it looks loke you're thinking of going east from LA to Joshua Tree? I'd be happy to meet and greet there, but I could contribute more of a leg if the route were to come through San Diego.

I will be in Palmdale on 3/23 and on 3/24 taking the Streetmasters course (to learn how to take curves better).  That ends in the evening on 3/24 and I plan on staying put until you all come through on 3/25 (in the morning).  If you want to do it on a different weekend then I would just meet up with you as you come through Santa Barbara.  As far as me planning the route from Central to Southern you may not want me to do that...I am horrible at mapping out routes and could very well have us headed into points unknown...ha ha.  I can certainly do some looking to find the way there but am completely unfamiliar with Southern CA riding (I do all mine from Central coast - to northern CA--LA scares me :-*).

CoachDoc, my think was that if the SoCal riders could converge on a central location, no single rider would have to go as far. How about a Socal meetup in Palmdale, and then proceeding to JT? Just throwing out ideas: in your case, it would be shorter to go straight to JT...

Mooshie, I'm with you: LA scares me too, even in a car!
