I put a SSD in my Macbook a little while back - so much faster and quieter!

Yeah, just finished setting it up. Super fast startup and shutdown. Big apps launch much quicker. A great way to increase speed on an old 2009 iMac.

Ha, true. I noticed that my pistons all have a little remnant from the milling process. Looks like when you're turning the face surface down on some stock with a lathe, there's often a little "nipple" left over. Does yours?

This picture makes it look insignificant but it's actually pretty prominent.
Is this something I should remove?

No real time line for my project.  It is slated to be finished AFTER my 750 (Bionic Mongrel) project, but it seems like it has my focus as of late, since my 750 is stuck in fabrication (when my fabricator can get to it) and when I get wheels sourced for the 750. 

I think you are WAY ahead of the game.  You've already built everything else but the new motor, where I am in the opposite boat, of only working on the motor.

This weekend, I distracted myself further by delivering my CB550K4 to my buddy Ian Halcott (I sold it to him for a flip project) and helped him do a tear down.

Ah, nice. Yeah I guess it helps that I only have money for my one bike plus a project motor. And that none of my good friends have any interest in old bikes, so fewer distractions.

It's a quick rebuild and flip project.  It was formerly my CB550K4 build thread.  Ian is a professional builder, so there will be no build thread.  He's going to mow through it like a duck goes through - - - -.  We checked the compression and it was solid (130-140) so it will just get the valves lapped and new gaskets on the motor (along with paint).  Detabbed, gusseted, custom seat and tank.

Do you expect an issue? Obviously it's on me to check my motor but I would think that Dynoman would have accounted for this and added proper valve relief cuts. Unless you're straying from stock and the valve/cam combo you're going with makes for longer travel?

My guy shoots each for $15/. Oil shed underneath and dry film on skirts. Thermal reflective on top.

Really nice guy. Maybe I misunderstood but it's $15 per coating. Three coatings, $45. Debating whether it's worth it. Thanks Cal!

Oh ok, well I'm planning on stock cam/valve train combo so I'll be good. Maybe I'll get jealous and switch it up, though. Really curious on HP differences when we're both finished. Fun experiment.

I decided to just do some mild Stage I-II porting to clean up the ports.  Not a full-blown Mike Rieck Stage III.  Mike says that the 650 head is much better out of the box than the 750 and 550 heads. 

Mike hooked me up with the Megacycle cam (based on his and Brent Waller's recommendations) and hardweld rockers.

Looking to do a Serdi valve job and Stage II MRieck porting. Decking...nah. I really have no authority to say but I'd think that just with that I'll be pulling pretty good.

I plan on talking with Mike soon and I want to get his opinion...which pretty much means I'll do whatever he says, haha.

I would expect it necessary to mill the piston top for valve relief with that cam, Don. Might dry assemble with clay before you opt for any coatings (if you do opt for them) on the pistons. I am using the same cam and mine (pistons) had to be cut deeper, including the valve pockets and rocker arms needed slight clearancing.

Trying to find a new output shift seal.

Are these hard to find? I haven't even looked for seals yet. Looks like we're pretty much at the same stages.

That thread is 3 years old and those seals are not so easy to find. I was able to find a NOS one with some effort.

Did you say what you're using for exhaust, Don? I don't recall. Been looking into that lately. I would want something cheap but not too cheap where it eliminates the gains from Mike's porting work. I'd like to do a Yoshi replica, but price will be a factor.

My friend is doing the frame fab work as well as the exhaust.  I have not decided, but it will likely be a 4-1 Yoshimura replica.  I'll be happy to ask him to do 2 sets of headers.

I'd suggest grabbing the H4 LED bulb from CognitoMoto (~$65). It uses 12w/18w lo to hi.

Just got that LED unit. And you're completely right, this says 12w low/18w high. Not sure why their website has such a different set of numbers.

Waiting for the m-unit and switches then I'm off to the races.
