I just measured my bike's weight. 355lbs wet. Went to a transfer station and used the truck scale. Manual lists the weight as about 438lbs wet. Not too bad.

Truedisk can take your disc: slot, drill, and flatten it by grinding it.  A medium sandpaper can be used in a palm sander with it on the bike if you take enough precautions to keep any metal out of your bearing and axle surfaces.  You can do it on a bench on the rotor as well but consistently sanding it evenly...you just run the risk of introducing a bit of runout.  So, the lathe is ideal method of handling the issue.  Just scrubbing the disc with a stripping pad and some acetone can cut any deposit on the surface.  Anything that has embedded itself into the pores of stainless steel is minimal because it is not porous like cast iron.

My opinion on it.

Ok, really looking into the R6 swap. Seems like I can get a complete front end off a '99-'04 R6 for under $350. Plus the dual rotors off a CBR for like $100. I might do this, get an old 550 front hub and do the machine work slowly and still have my 674 to ride. When I'm done I should be able to just swap it all over fairly quick.

I'm still waiting on new pads for my dual disc setup so if that feels good I might abandon the R6 work, or maybe sell my Godffery dual disc setup as a direct swap to someone on the forum. Interesting.

Having 8 pistons to stop me as opposed to 2 is exciting.

This is the post I'll be following. Franky did a great write up and he followed FunJimmy's build. Also looking at what Scott S did too. A lot of great info.

I did the R6 frontend on my ladies "605". Used the Cognito hub though.
I rebuilt the internals from race tech. It's is butter smooth. And breaking power can cause endos lol.

Yeah, I was looking at GSXR and CBR stuff like yours and making brackets to fit more modern calipers but this is pretty straight forward. Hardest part seems to be the lathe work which I love doing :)). I also have access to a 95 year old machinist (who still works full time) for help.

Slightly lighter. About the same power (70 hp to the rear wheel).  Narrower because it's a twin.  Probably a little more torque, too.

I've ridden it a few times.  The lightness is the key.  The stock 550 front suspension handles even better than my Race Tech improved front because the bike is so much lighter.  The engine also has a lower COG.  That bike was one of the biggest inspirations for my 650 in a 550 build -- just easier because it's a drop in motor.

Just spoke to my buddy about his 550 with the EX500 motor.  Wet weight was 325 lbs.  He said to be wary of truck scales because they have an error factor of about 50 lbs.  He suggested using two scales (one for each wheel).  STILL -- it sounds like you got yours down to a good weight.

I used two bathroom scales but they must have bee super cheap because the wheels dented the middle and prevented the scale from actually moving. I'm not about to go buy more scales for this.

I weighed my bike and me a 540 lbs. I just weighed the bike at 380. So that means that the scale thinks I'm 160 lbs. I'm actually 135 lbs because I'm a tiny sickly human. So that means the scale is 25 lbs over. Subtract 25 from 380 and you get 355. That's close enough for me!

DAMN 135 lbs!!? You ARE a skinny human.  That's bordering on Dani Pedrosa weight!

The stock CB550 is supposed to have a wet weight of 423 lbs., so if yours is about 355 with a full tank of gas that's 68 lbs. less -- pretty outstanding diet.

No kidding. Pedrosa weighs about 117 lbs but manages to muscle a MotoGP bike around a track.

Yeah, I'll just go ahead and do that, haha. I'm buying parts for the R6 fork swap so I'll probably be able to do a stoppie.
