Hi Scott. PZ and I are in Sierra vista. Going to Bisbee tomorrow to tour the queen mine. Then plan on riding to silver city NM via Douglas and Portal AZ.  Let me know if you want to join up. Plan on coming back around to AZ on Thursday or Friday then on through to CA.

Lisa, if you go through Albuquerque, be EXTREMELY careful. I spent a couple of weeks there last summer, and there were several close calls on the freeway, even though we were in a high-profile truck..

Yes he is...and when I told him that no SOHC person was picking him up to go east or north or south this is what occurred in Hillsbourgh NM.  It slowed us down considerably!

It's still a bit early in the riding season in most of the USA. ;)
Do you have any idea what route you will take back through AZ?

No plans yet. I will be in Williams AZ on Thursday if all pans out. Trying to find an interesting ride back to SB.  Do you have any recommendations Scott?

I hear there is an unusually large-sized ditch north of there.

You've got several options: You could head west from Williams, and pick up Rt66 to Kingman, just past Ash Fork, then take I40 to 95, which takes you through Lake Havasu to Parker. From Parker, take hwy 62 to Joshua Tree; you know the way home from there. ;)
You could also take hwy 89 south at Ash Fork, and check out Jerome and AZ's "tail of the dragon", and Prescott's Whiskey Row. From Prescott, you can take a few different routes, depending on how much of a hurry you are in, but the best way to cross the desert without the interstates is through Parker and JT, IMHO.

I will be visiting that large hole before I settle in Williams for the evening. PZ said he hasn't seen it yet and neither have I.
Thanks Scott for,the tips. I will plan a route tomorrow.  I'm trying to stay out of the rain. Stayed dry today but geesh it was cold. Not so lucky on Tuesday. Rain almost the entire way

It started raining here just before 2:00, and so far my rain gauge has a bit over 1/4". I was watching the weather radar earlier today, and it looked like you dodged a wide swatch of rain to the south! The latest forecast is for more rain tomorrow, extending to Friday morning.

Also, if you do decide to come through Jerome and Prescott, you might consider back-tracking from Williams to Flagstaff, and taking 89A through Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona and Jerome to Prescott. (There was a big fire in Oak Creek last May, so that stretch might not be as scenic as it used to be.)

Following your adventure at backdoormotoadventure and I am jealous!  I understand you concern on the gas situation in that NM/AZ area.   A couple of years ago, I rode from Deming to Road Forks then south to Douglas.  I did not gas up at Lordsburg on the way over, planning on gassing at Road Forks.  In the old days, that site was a giant truck stop with a couple of smaller stations across the road.  We pulled up on our bikes and were not sure any of the places were still in business.  Luckily, the old truck stop had like one gas pump still open.  If it had been closed, I don't think we could have made it back to Lordsburg.

Speaking of gas, on your trip from Silver City to the Cliff Dwellings, did you stop at Doc Campbells trading post?  If so, are they still selling gas there?  Also, did you notice if the Lake Roberts store or the Mimbres store were selling gas?  You hit some of the best roads in NM for motorcycle riding on this trip!  I especially like that route over Emory Pass, with all the 10 mph curves!

Sorry I could not meet up with you in California.  I have since replaced the fork seals, dust caps and put in progressive springs on the F1.  Now chasing a weird wobble that has appeared between 40 and 45 mph when I relax my grip (let go of)  on the handlebars.  No wobble below or above that speed or if I keep slight pressure on the bars.  Strange.
