CAL!!!! Don is trying to confuse me again!  ;)
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

Oh No! you didn't buy the breakout box I hope???  ::) Geez, you've just made it about 100 times more complex  >:( Why don't newbies ever ask before they buy stuff?

Dude, if you were even contemplating the DTLA Container Show this year, you might as well throw that idea out with your stubby pinky.  :(

Okay, so I was kidding.  ;D Yes, you need the breakout box for the MotoScope Pro. I love that gauge too, my son wants to use it on his 500 build, but we are struggling to design a front end where mounting it will look "integrated" and not have it just "stuck on" or sticking out.

For a second there, I wondered if a breakout box was required for my Chronoclassic, but NO it's only required for the digital displays.

Here is something I have been playing around with.  I think I like it.. it should contour to and be a mount for the Motoscope as well as contouring right over the top of the headlight on the front side (might even be a headlight mount as well).

For a build/project like this, I don't see much value in keeping plans secret.  all my engine specs and bike plans will be out in the open here, so here is what I have been playing with:

I can bend, fab and chrome a 7/8th bar but am at a loss for how to make mounting brackets in steel to attach it to the fork tubes...

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

If necessary I could kick up the front bend a bit to give a better view to the motoscope..

I have lots of versions in sketches and in ideas, time to get some tubing and make some drafts...

I never was in love with my Tarozzi clip-ons.. i think the clamps look chunky..

It's been my preference to have the Scope tilted towards the rider some. I've tinkered with a bolt on mounting bracket to the front of the triple, with a 15* tilt for the Scope. That should keep the back of the gauge and its wiring away from the headlight shell.

This all depends upon the length of the headlight ears an how far forward the bucket sits. If the gauge is too flat, it conflicts with the back of the bucket.

As for your bars, if you're going to mount them in that way, why not use custom fork clamps and clip on style of bars? The mid section of the bar is superfluous since it doesn't seem to lend itself for a useful mounting area. Custom clip-on clamps would be the route to take with your approach in my opinion. (See, I'm still after your wallet!)

BLAC, what about having two holes in the top triple tree with some attractive hardware hiding mounts underneath the clamp like the hugh's handbuilt XS650 bars? it would give you a similar stance and position to clip-ons but with a more attractive appearance.

I have the Cognito retro top triple clamp and Tarozzi clip-ons now.  I want to keep the Cognito clamp, but am fine selling off the clip-ons.  I am with you on the custom clip-on mounts, I just don't know who will manufacture them and at what cost.

I like the continuation of the bars coming to the center because it would contour right over the top of the headlight and would probably be close to the same radius of the motoscope.  I was planning to mill out the center section for the motoscope to be countersunk into the bar so it sits flush (if that makes sense).

That is very cool, I have not seen that before!  I already have the Cognito retro style upper tree so im not sure there is a way to modify it to work like this.. worth thinking about though!

All you need todo, drill and tap the triple underneath for 3/8 or 10 mm bolts...hope there is meat back of the edge, so you can blind tap. Then run mounts from under guage so they are hidden.
Bend your bar as in your drawing..I really like it.
Then you may have to bend the first few inches of the bar..across the bar, to tilt up the guage to see it better... Nice idea you got there..

If you cant get it to bend properly, consider the clubman style construction........
EXCEPT..... Run the front ends of the bars about 1 1/2 inches past the weld, with a bullet end on them...it would look tits..

There are two holes threaded and ready to go on the underside of the Cognito triple. I don't feel comfortable screwing the whole handlebar unit to the underside of the triple with just blind holes, but I could mount the gauge to those if i had to and mounting the gauge to the handle bar doesn't work out.   Thanks, I think it might look nice if I can figure it out!

Do you mean for a mounting system to attach it to the cognito triple, the bar bends, or a custom fork tube clamp setup?

HOw big are holes in the triple and how far apart ?
Making them bigger and 1/2 deep threads or more will hold them.

I saw something just like this at The One Show this last weekend -- as far as the bars go.  The brake/clutch levers were reversed so that the hinges were on the outer edge of the bars. I'm not sure I'd want the gauge to be up against the bars unless you provided adequate cushioning material.  Otherwise the Motoscope will take some rattling against the bars.

I like the idea of the bars Nick shot over.

Someone must have been peeping in my window looking at my sketches!   :P I like the idea of flipping the controls, but how do you run a master cylinder(less) setup? I would love to get rid of that fugly thing but also would like to prevent myself from dying in a situation where brakes would have been nice.

You use a Cable to remote master cylinder , under the tank, in the fairing, or on the fork leg are a few places folks put them .Btw Eighties Beemers and Kawi Z1R. Used remote front master cylinders.
The bike in the pic has the brake cylinder and throttle inside the bars, but that is guite difficult to do.

Great to know, I will look into that!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.
