Wilbur, you make it sound like you have a F2/F3 head/engine?? The pistons you are using HAVE to be above 9:1 or 9.2:1 stock CR. Most of the kits with the flat tops are 10.25:1 or 10.5:1 with the K style/early F engine. The 392 head may also measure less volume = more compression.

How are your carbs working now?

What cam are you running? BIG difference at small $$.

Guess you'll be working a deal with Mike now!! LOL.

Are you wearing big fat boots?

Wish I coulda been there to watch!! Congratulations.

Congrats to Frank also and EVERYONE. See you guys in November.

No, just a K8, but the K8 pistons have a raised dome, while the C.I. pistons do not. Rerunning the numbers shows that the 836 flat tops should maintain a compression ratio very close to the stock compression ratio of 9.2:1. My original calcs were off just a tad.  :-[

Well, I'm just all discombobulated! Didn't notice qualifier so yes, my bad. Frank, I thought that's what you meant. Sorry about the miscommunication. I'll get your check and battery out tomorrow. Though I still need your address. You won $400.00 for best MPH and ET Saturday and Sunday. $100.00 for Sunday's R/T. Jays mailing me the run sheets so I can check Saturday's R/T times. Congratulations. Maybe Rockingham will be different. We shall see. Your 10.36 was impressive. See you in the lanes,Bill

How far up with the stroke do they both go? Did the stockers piston edge and crown top go up as far as the 836's? Bigger bore with same chamber volume should equal higher CR??

I want to see how far down in the 10's Frank can go once he gets used to the new engine and it gets broken in. AND I want to see how Bill does too. This will be fun.

Yes, that would be true if the stock pistons were flat top. The piston edges are the same, but the crown of the stock K8 piston extends into the combustion chamber, making the combustion chamber smaller with the stock (domed) pistons. Flat tops make for a larger combustion chamber, but the bore increase to 65mm (836cc) offsets this by almost exactly 1:1, so the compression ratio would remain near the stock value of 9.2:1.

The conservative volume of the dome is nearly 2.73cc (it might be a tad more). The volume of each cylinder has increased by 25cc. That extra 25cc is being compressed into the extra 2.73cc of chamber volume, so 25/2.73=9.1575.  ;)

FRANK IN THE 10.30's  got a NEW MOTOR ????? Better check on that Jerry = I thought it was the OL WORN OUT motor of years pass. Better be careful LOCKING UP IN A DRAG RACE, maybe in road racing you can say that and not show up or their bike fails to run = but if that happens at a drag race you lose the money on the LOCK UP RACE. But no way could it ever be a heads up race with a old tired 10.30et  motor against a big COBRA MOTOR bike = 60' - 330' - 660' -1000' 1320' numbers plus mph do you really think that would be fair ?????

WILBER : Great time under your pop up = sitting and talking...... again you proved to ME it not about all the talk and it's all about those win tickets and NO RED LIGHTS !!!!!  How about those three in the row leaving on the second yellow, not you = you be the man with that best RT to get that bye.

POPS sitting under the pop up with Wilber WAITNG 5-6-7 hours next pass.

Yes, I was the one who left 3 times on the second yellow. (-.319, -.087, -.062) 6 passes total on that bike. The first bad launch was affected by my inconsistent pressure on the rear brake lever. The bike moved forward, helping the big red light. If I had a test and tune session, I might have done better. I will T&T at Rockingham ;)

Sam engine I ran last year Jerry. I haven't touched it in 3 years now and I'm getting worried she might come apart. I was running out of time in the offseason due to working in the wife's drag bike and other projects so I left the Honda alone. I didn't want to get caught up at the last minute trying to get the bike together to race. I think we've seen enough example's of that process in the past. I'll pull the engine off soon and completely disassemble it. The crank was wearing the last time I freshened it up and the margin on those those Honda valves was getting thin. I ordered a set of stainless steel valves from Dynoman and some lash caps from Mike. I'll have the head redone completely and install another crank, new rings and bearings before Rockingham.

I think you all should have figured out by now that its not about the money for me, but my contribution in trying to get more SOHC bikes out to race at the Man Cup. I committed to not accepting my challenge money from the World Finals last season so it could be put into increasing the SOHC winners bonus pot. I only see it fitting to once again turn my winnings for the challenge in April 2016 back over for a new challenge at the Rockingham race in June. This allows anyone on an SOHC based street ET bike a fair chance to win money from the ET, MPH and Reaction time challenge.

So hold onto that money Bill and be sure the winner of the June challenge understands that I donated the funds this time. Maybe the winner of the April race Saturday reaction time will also generously donate their winnings as well towards the Rockingham race so we cover the items for both days.

Lets get it together fellas- we need more bikes. Stock or otherwise, pro or rookie. Come on out and get into the fun. Its always a blast for everyone to get together. Or as our friend/forum member Pops described us- "the clown show". Oh yeah, I'm bringing my pointy shoes and hat to the next race just to make things complete. Lol!!!!!!!!!!

You guys should post how easy tech and safety gear requirements are...wayyy less of a time and money investment than road racing!  If all the racing was not 1000 miles away, I would be there.  If you have the geographic opportunity, go run your bike down the 1320'!
If it works good, it looks good...

Bill, I surely hope you've got the stock timing advancer on the bike. It'll make it much easier to crank against the compression. Put light springs on the arms so it goes full advance after start up.

Personally, if you were having that much trouble cranking a mere 1062 as you called it, I'd temporarily remove that rotor and install the outboard starter plate and nut. I'd run it a few time that way til that tight motor begins to loosen up. Tight ain't good in drag racing to make horsepower.

Just my 2 cents with my worn out motor.

Looking forward to getting the machine work done on my new 72mm high compression F engine build so I can begin test fitting everything. It'll definitely be 24 volt starting. I'll see you in the lanes in June. Old motor, or new doesn't matter to me.

Here's a few of my time slips that show the .005 reaction time that earned me a much needed bye run and allowed me to make a solo pass that netted the included  10.36  ET  slip.

In Bill's words- nuff said!!! See ya'll at the ROCK.

By the way, could you feel any difference in the power with the bigger bore once the rings seated in??

Most definitely an improvement. Over a second off of ET when compared to November, plus the tendency for the front wheel to "reach for the sky". The "big bore" gains are a little muted as a result of using flat top pistons in the later model engine, so compression is not quite what it would be with an earlier head. Of course, lower compression pistons lend themselves well to supplemental compression (i.e. turbo or supercharger?)....  ;)

Overall, I am happy with it. Next performance mods will be suspension related, and a rev limiter for peace of mind. Stretch and lower the rear, along with lowering and stiffening the front, combined with some fine tuning of the A/F ratio (dyno time!) ought to gain another .5, and I'll be in the 12 second neighborhood!  8)

Maybe an ignition cutout to permit full power shifting (per the resident guru POPS)?  ???

I'll be building another motor throughout the season to campaign next year!  ;D
Wilbur - congrats on a great weekend! You might give a thought to lowering your bars too to help you get out of the wind (you're a big Galut to drag down a track).  ;)

I'm glad someone brought that up, I didn't want to hurt Wilbur's feelings... ;D ;)

I'm no guru = ask Trey why the PURPLE HAZE did not shift ONE TIME with a AIR SHIFTER ???  Gave Wiber the simple kill button and with a hour or two and two pieces of metal he will be shifting full throttle open. Bars are to high and take off the mirrors and I will make him a strap to pull the front end down. Funny thing is I brought my hand made practice tree down to the race [ not some hand held game ] that cost $$$$ w/handle bars, clutch lever, and throttle that can be clutch tensioned  adjusted to your feel and roll out to your own setting = no one seem to want to practice. A race is not the place = track rental, make many leaves , which a dyno will not tell you your lights.

LOL  ;D

I have a set of flat bars, with an ever so slight pull back, that are on the short list of improvements. Hopefully they will remind me to get down out of the air! Found myself sitting upright at the finish line more than once...  :o  ;)
