I have  a  neighbor who has two sons, both of whom play varsity football (defense). Engine in and/or out and I enjoy a beer meantime.

LOL....   :)

I do something similar.  I have a riding buddy who is very big and strong.  I invite him over whenever I need to remove or install an engine.

Have a safe and fun trip.
I'm with Ujeni, I put the frame over the engine, I've even done it with forks on (no tire).

How did you keep from squishing the points cover?
Reason i ask: I just received an engine last summer for rebuild, and someone had apparently taken it out of the frame that way. It really flattened the cover!
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

I've seen posts on using 2x4 blocks to hold the engine off the floor to protect the points cover area.

Lower back pain and injuries are cumulative (i.e. they add up). A career in construction has taught me to use the proper tools for heavy lifting to avoid using up what little I have left of my lower back.   ;)

Like I said earlier, I have three installs and removals, from built motorcycles, planned for 2023. There will be a break for our upcoming trip, but I am determined to build my two person “stretcher”.

Updates in May.

Found a frame from my timelapse showing my wife and I putting the frame on the engine. Note how much of the engine is not mounted. This makes the lift far easier.

You can watch the timelapse if you need help sleeping :)

I just never that methodical, or organized. The bike is usually rolling around on it’s wheels before I get the engine completed. This time is no different......

Here are a couple pictures of the blocks I've seen.

But I do like the idea of lifting the motor with a cherry picker to save my already broken back.

I like the “L” hanger, with the adjustable centre lift point (that wasn’t quite long nough?). I tried something like that a few years ago and had two issues. It’s not easy control the angle (up and down of the back and front) of the engine and the legs of my folding hoist never fit properly under the lift table. A LOT of shimming and prep. I want something that installs in a couple of minutes, is easy to use, and gets put away just as quickly, and takes up little space.

I always love to see garages and work spaces that are really tidy and open. I'm sort of organized but I could not say my garage is a picture of clean and neat. We do too much out there.

BTW
The pictures I posted are not my garage...... they were in someone else's garage and post.....
But I have attempted to get a bit more on the organization side of the spectrum this past year, though the unorganized in me still prevails.....

I use a strap and a chain hoist to remove or fit the engine on my own. Just have to remember to move the straps to the outside of the frame once the engine is nearly fitted.

I’m not sure if you were referring to my post or not but….. After I fitted the engine I took it for its first run only to discover a spacer had been left out of the gearbox so the engine did indeed need to come back out.

I remember I painted up the engine cases etc. on an 836 and had it looking very purdy , mounted up the carbs etc. and when I turned on the gas a float got stuck and dumped gas all over my nice fresh new silver paint !  ;D  Note to self make sure drain hoses are connected.
