The Man Cup series is making a stop this week at Carolina Dragway in Jackson SC,  near Aiken. We'll be there competing in street ET, pro ET, 5.60 index and VTwin ET.  If anyone is in the area, come on out and support Bill, Wilbur and myself as we battle it out on our Honda's against the sportbikes.  Racing kicks off Friday afternoon with the first time run. On Saturday morning we'll finish up time runs then eliminations will start in the early afternoon.  The race will be run to completion on Saturday with Sunday being reserved in case  bad weather  move in on Saturday.

I'm in the process of doing pre-race maintenance on my F3 now. I've got to do maintenance on 2 others after this one.

Finished up the F3 tonight and got it off the stands. I need to pull Gladys dragbike out of the trailer next to change the oil and do my usual pre-race maintenance. I'm a day behind. Hopefully I can catch up tomorrow night. I want our equipment to be 100% ready. As to this rider, there's always a big question mark on optimum performance🤣

Its my F3,  "old faithful" as you call it.  I haven't freshened it up yet but we're only running 1/8th mile at this event. I won't be pushing it as hard so she should be fine.

We came down Thursday night and dropped off our trailer in order to secure a decent parking spot. We Drove back home because I  had to work on Friday.  First round of time runs were scheduled to begin around 6pm but i knew we'd have a problem getting back in time. We did arrive about 6:30 and decided to just act as pit crew for several of our racibg friends. We did do a little pre race preparation to our bikes inside the trailer. It didn't make sense to unload anything unless we were going to make a pass. We'll be back at the dragstrip around 9am Saturday morning. Time/qualifying passese begin at 11am so i want to get unload, start up the bikes and be ready to begin without rushing. Hoping for a good race day for the Loney Motorsports team.

Unfortunately, overall event participation seems to be very low. The promoter has provided everything a racer could ask for but the count is down. I have my suspicions but will continue to support the series faithfully.

Well, my race weekend on the F3 didn't turn out as planned. After almost 30 years of racing this bike, it finally decided to throw me for a loop. I wasn't able to make it to the track in time for the one evening time trial. I knew that wasn't going to be a problem because we're given 2 on Saturday morning prior to eliminations.  I pretty much prepared all the bikes that Friday night at the track so all we'd have to do is pull them out of the trailer Saturday morning, do a few test fires and then wait for time runs. Saturday morning came, we unloaded and sat around until the call to lanes for each class. I was first out on the Harley for v twin. I made my hit and came back to get the Honda for the street ET time run. The bike launched with a small wheelie and ran a 6.73@100mph. Not my best pass historically. The issue came when i rolled out of the throttle to slow down at the end of the dragstrip.  I heard a daggum noise I'd never hear before.  I pulled in the clutch but i still could hear something. I was somewhat relieved because the engine was probably okay but became concerned about potential transmission issues.  I stopped on the return road to look over the bike. I concluded the problem was coming from behind the sprocket cover. I was thinking perhaps i had snapped the output shaft and had a bad bearing. I had a guy tow me back to my pit area. I removed the sprocket cover to find missing bolts and a lost sprocket locking ring. Damn.  Bad but not the end of the world. There was no obvious damage but my day was over for the SOHC.

I think Old Faithful is jealous of New Faithful and letting you know it.

After the Honda git parked i pulled my ZX10 out of the trailer as a substitute to run in street ET.  I rarely race the bike now and haven't been on it in several months. My first pass was terrible.  I only ran a 6.70 with a crappy 60'. It was my "scared pass". Lol. next ip was eliminations so i dialed it down to a 6.50 knowing it might go quicker. Sure enough i ran a 6.28 but got lucky when my opponent redlighted. Went on to 2nd round but i pushed the teee and redlighted myself. Next up for me was super comp on my small tire kawasaki dragbike. I had made one qualifying pass with the bike and ran a 5.61. The 1/8th mile index is 5.60 so i knew i was close. It put me in the 6th qualifying position.  My opponent was a young fella on a ZX14.  I felt good about my chances of winning the round. We staged up and when the pro tree came down i was out fion my opponent.  I looked bsck several times to see where he was and each time he was closing the gap. At the last second i chopped throttle thinking my win light was coming on. Unfortunately I realized his light was on instead.  I had run 5.53 on the 5.60 index on a double breakout pass. He ran a 5.57 on the 5.60 dial but was closer to the index.

In V twin, i had the bye run first roubd- easy win. Lol. 2nd round i had to race a v rod out of Florida.  I was the slower bike and left 1st. I looked up half track and my win light was on. He redlighted. Made it to the finals and had to race the points leader. I lowered my dial in but ended up on a break out pass for the loss.

Gladys won 1st round on a holeshot.  She came back 2nd round and redlighted.

Overall we had a great weekend because all of my siblings came to hangout with us for the day. That  support  made me feel like the biggest winner of all.

Got a little hardware for my efforts. Something to look at when my mind wanders in old age, should I be fortunate enough to be around that long.
