Prokop, you are planning on riding 700 miles, including the Tail, in one day?!! Not going to have much time to stop and smell the roses...

I am afraid you have a point  :)

Here is a question:  Should I be expecting PZ by USPS?  I might arrange my affairs and leave on the 8th in the morning to have more time to travel to Barber and enjoy the Tail.  But if PZ is coming my way, I don't want him to miss the ride.

Check with Josh (motofist). He has indicated flying to Barber with the baton, so either see if he can ship to you prior (for the trip there) or collect the baton there and ride back to VA.

I have no idea where PZ is or is planning on being but around Thanksgiving I am riding through CA into Oregon.  Can take him on a spin on an actual Honda! ;)
Also if we do retire him for a bit for the 2015 year can we check him out for rides?  I unfortunately missed out on the beginning of the 2014 ride where I was going to take him through a bunch of states.  I am planning that ride for 2015 so thought I would ask.

Good idea to get the requests in now for '15.  Maybe we will do the GZ travel thing proposed at the beginning of this year.

Well, it looks like PZ is flying to Barber and will be traveling back north to Virginia with me.  I will see who else is interested to get hands on Mr.Lizard, but I can ship him to you in November, no problem.

You may as well keep him in the south for now, riding season will be winding down up here soon

Seems to be the best way to do this. Look at it this way; you don't have the pressure of getting the lizard to Barber on time. ;D

I could give GZ a ride down to Barber on my cB750... in the trailer.

GZ would probably prefer a window seat on a plane rather than being locked in a dark trailer... but I could at least strap him to the cb750.

Just an option.  It would require somehow getting him to me no later than Monday EOD (10/6), as I leave for Barber on Tuesday.  Again, just an option.

You might have some company for part of your return trip. I imagine a few of the Georgia riders might be able to accompany you at least some of the way back home?

Just wanted to provide a quick update as promised previously.  ofreen and I will meet this Friday at a wide spot in the road in very rural Idaho called Picabo (think Peekaboo).  It's a scenic ride for us both to get there.  I will be on my 72 cb500 but will have a smattering of other classic bikes along for the ride.  Our riding season is almost over so everyone is jumping at any excuse to take a day off to ride :)  I will get out an ride as much as possible with PZ for the short week I have him until we fly to Barber.  Looking forward to it all!

Kickstart.............That lizard rode very quietly in my trailer...........I think it was the 110-octane racing gas ;D ;D ;D

Suggestion for next year................I support all the riding and member involvement.  Just thinking that if riders are not available, GZ and the log-book should be sent to someone for SPECIAL EVENTS where the most amount of SOHC/4 members could meet and sign the log-book. Great Photo-Ops ;)

Thanks for the kind words, Josh, the feeling is mutual.  Thanks again to you and Dave for riding over to Peekaboo to keep this rolling.  It is a great idea to get it down to Barber so others can have an opportunity as well.

Thanks Scott, I'll put some photos up a little later today. Going to look at a car this morning.

For the first time in these relays I have retraced my steps from a previous one, but that's OK.  Josh (Motorfist) stepped up with a good plan to get the pimp-o-saurus down to Barber that also involved some riding, saving me from having to ride down to the post office.  Thanks again to Josh and Dave. Pretty weird how fast the year went by.

So I left the house and headed to Mountain Home via I-84, then on to US20 to Picabo, ID.  The road itself isn't anything special, with a few curves breaking up some very long straights. But the sky was blue and the air free of haze and the scenery satisfying.

I stopped by the store to get some refreshment, but was disappointed to find it closed -

Fortunately, the Silver Creek store In Picabo showed more signs of life. About 10 minutes after I arrived, Josh rode in on his beautiful CB500 and Dave on his unnaturally aspirated Harley.  Three of these shots look a little odd because the lens door on my old Canon Elph didn't open all the way, and I didn't notice because the bright sunlight washed out the LCD screen -

A very nice piece of work.  Josh’s CB500.  His wife rides an equally well crafted 400, pictures in last year’s relay thread -

Some good conversation and a bite to eat in the Silver Creek store -

So Josh and Dave headed east and I hit the road toward home sans GZ.  I sure he is glad to be gone to new adventures and not having to put up with my daily commute to work any more.  I don’t blame him and wish I was going with him.

On the way back, I stopped at a roadside attraction I had ridden by many times without paying it much mind.  This caught my eye. I am a sucker for a flat fender -

There was also an early Ford GPW and another CJ3A there as well -

Besides the jeeps, the spot is a treasure trove of awesome stuff -

I felt like a kid in a candy store, but even with the bungee cords in the fairing, there wasn't much I could carry away on the faithful old 750, so I left it for another day.  A few more shots, inclding the old Kuna Mora school about 12 miles south of my house.  Until this spring, there were 250+ vintage cars and trucks around this old building collected by an old guy over the years.  He never did anything with them. One day he up and croaked and left his kids to deal with it.  They had a big auction and now it is all gone.  There was some cool and unique stuff there, plus a lot of crap.  I always wanted to poke around in there, but he had no interest in selling any of it.  He could have made a fortune from Ebay.

So that is it for this year for me.  I hope this continues on in some form or another.

Thanks for the post Greg.  As mentioned, it ended up just being myself and another buddy to pick up PZ.  Two days before the ride the head count was 6.  the day before the ride 3 flamed out and on the morning we left to meet Greg, the 1973 Triumph Trophy that was with us was forced to retire due to an electrical issue.  He also mentioned he was having a very tough time keeping up with myself and my buddy Dave as well.  The Triumph is for sale now if anyone is interested :)

The ride from my place to the meet up in Picabo was about 130 miles so not too far.  The route stretches across a large chunk of high elevation desert and much of that is a government research facility called the INL and no stopping/photo taking is allowed.  After the INL we pass through Arco, ID which is the first city to ever be fully powered by Nuclear Energy for a day in the 1950's.  Neat stuff.  Over the years a lot of nuclear research has been conducted at the INL and the Navy even did some nuclear submarine training out there in the waterless desert in the 80's and 90's.  Growing up I had a lot of Navy brat's for friends.  Anyway, the small hamlet is not so picturesque even though it has some fascinating history.  I did manage to poach a quick photo op in the park at a submarine tower on the way home.  A SOHC relay first I am sure :)

After Arco, we would pass Craters of the Moon National Monument, another really cool place.  Took photos here last year so opted not to have a rerun this year and didn't stop.  Then on to Carey, ID where I have no exciting tales other than they tried (with no success) to get Jim Carrey to come to their centennial celebration.  After a quick stop to tighten a loose mirror in Carey it was 5 more minutes to Picabo for the meet with Greg.  Some may remember the Olympic skier Picabo Street.  She is from Idaho and named after this little village at age 2.  Her parents were going to let her choose her own name when she was old enough but I guess they settled on Picabo before she had the chance.  Enough Idaho history.  Sorry to blab on but I don't have much for photos so I feel like I owe you all something in return. As usual Greg kicked my butt for photos.

The two trusty Honda's from my perspective :)

I Hope no one minds the double posting but I wanted to keep the hand off separate from a joyride we took yesterday around south eastern Idaho.  As the weather fades to winter we try to get out as much as possible until its time for the snowmobiles.

We stopped by Watson's which is a motorcycle friendly establishment in the tiny town of Menan, ID.
Along for the ride this time was my lovely partner in life and crime, Michelle with her cb400 that Greg spoke about with kind words.  Dave made a repeat appearance with his girlfriend on pillion and something I am extremely pleased about is I was able to coax my father out of a 20 year hiatus from motorcycles to pilot my BSA A65 Lightning.  A truly fantastic day that may not have happened without the excuse of PZ to take a ride.

At my house before the ride

Last stop for the day in my little 650 person town of Ririe, ID.

Commuted to work today into Idaho Falls with PZ navigating.  I park at the "secret" entrance to the skunkworks division of Motorfist.  As you can see by the stained sidewalk, I have rode the BSA to work a few times over the summer as well  ;)

Busy and short week this week.  I hope to squeeze in a few more photos before we fly to Barber on Friday for the next handoff to Prokop.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the opportunity to be involved :)
