You got me labeled right :) and yes that is Bender01 on the right end. Missed out connecting flight in Denver on the way home yesterday so had to stay the night. Will be home later today. Even with all the flight issues in and out of Birmingham, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Great meeting you all. Found myself wishing I had a bike with me all weekend...

I left Barber with Godzilla Saturday afternoon taking 20 west and later 65 North. I was staying with a friend South of Nashville. Entering Tennessee it started to rain and it did not stop till I got there.

Sunday morning I left at about 4:30 Eastern time and in heavy fog made it back to 65. The only way to ride was with visor up and follow the interrupted white line in the middle of the road.  Once I panicked, it looked like I am running out of the road  - but it was just intersection and that's why the white line stopped.

At 65 I went to McDonald's to wait for sunrise and I met a French guy on 1974 BMW - he was heading from Barber to Chicago. We talked motorcycles, Prague and Kafka.

65 to Nashville was an easy ride, picked up 40 East and somewhere there the rain started. I was in slicks and treated boots and therefore dry, but it slowed me down. Finally made it to 81 North and Dorothy developed some problem. It was not cylinder specific, but lack of power and bogging down over 3500 rpms. After 40 minutes of checking basics I found out it was the exposed air filter that got wet and restricted air flow. Easy fix - I poked holes in it with a knife and went on. The rain was not stopping and traffic was heavy, 81 is a truck route and semis were everywhere but I pushed hard till 8 PM, finally in Lexington I decided in the rain and dark it is only matter of time when a trucker will run me over and decided to call it a night.

Monday morning 7:20 I checked out of the motel, loaded Dorothy, geared up. It was not raining but misty and wet and I still had quite few miles to go.

Dorothy started happily I walked her backwards 10 feet, clicked in first and she would not move. No weird noise, just would not go.  I looked down and there was my bloody chain on the ground. Back to the curb, digged  out spare connecting link and 40 minutes later had her ready again - luckily I could wash my hands at the motel, I was bit black.

I was not pissed, after riding for hours on 81 in rain with all the heavy traffic and dropping chain the next morning, I say I have some  amazing guardian angel. Why would the clip slip out is beyond me, it was there for 20 000 or so miles, Tsubaki Omega, too.

The rest was easy, 78 miles on 81 and then my beloved 211 over Skyline to Warrenton and home.

Total Godzilla miles: 839

I have had my share of riding in fog. I live in the second/third (depending on the year) foggiest city in Canada. Beautiful some days. Deadly on others.

and thanks for the lesson on always checking chain before you ride!

Wow!  Impressive trip 70CB750

Odd that the chain fell off when you parked it for the night.  Last time I did the BRP / Deals Gap, my master link circlip fell off... weirdest thing as the master link managed to stay in place.  Interesting... I also had a Tsubaki Omega chain (of course, that was like 12 years ago).  I wrapped some picture framing wire around the grooves in the master link posts as a makeshift circlip until I could get my hands on a replacement chain.

Bart... nice pic of PZ.

OK... updated Barber photo with everyone's handles listed at the bottom (I decided to stick to just handles).

Let me know if I got everyone's handle right.

The plan is, afaik, to ship him to Moshie for Thanksgiving, but that is still month away. He can get some miles in before that.

Maybe he can hitch a ride with Frank (a.k.a. dragracer) down to Valdosta for yet another Manufacturer's Cup event (televised finals at that!) and meet some heavy-hitters (Russ Jr., Big Jay, Kenny, etc)?

Hi Scott:  will get to the new thread in a moment.  Still trying to decide.  Hear that Oregon riding season will be over by Thanksgiving (even though it has been very temperate this year) :)
Thinking of riding Skaggs road out of Santa Rosa.  I will know more next week.  But either way I want to take the little monster with me.  I think he is due to see CA again! 8)
