Motorcycles are dangerous.

So are cars, trucks, airplanes, bicycles, pogo sticks......
Automobile related deaths per year are generally in the 10 per 100,000 registered vehicles range, whereas motorcycle related deaths per year hover around 70 per 100,000 registered bikes.

Airplanes and pogo stick deaths I'm not so sure about.

Now THAT hurts - or when the skin cracks on the outside of your knuckles and every time you move your finger it breaks open again.  Almost rather have a deep gash that can be sewn up than those annoying little cuts.  Torture.

I took my Harley for a ride yesterday, and of course, didn't exceed the speed limit. I was on public roads, and realised that it would be irresponsible and foolhardy to go faster than the posted speed limit, and some people might think less of me if I died when riding fast.

It was pretty hot riding in 90 deg F temps wearing full leathers, CE approved armour, good quality boots and full face helmet, gloves etc,  so I pulled into a roadside eatery and bought a light salad, which I washed down with a refreshing glass of water. I would have preferred a burger and a beer, but I didn't want some folks refusing to give me CPR if I had a heart attack and they decided that I was following an unhealthy lifestyle and thus, didn't deserve any sympathy.

On my way out I walked past some folks who were smoking cigarettes and the smell of burning tobacco brought back memories of when I was so irresponsible and foolish that I enjoyed the dangerous pleasures of the evil weed, boy I'm glad I beat that addiction!

Statistically, the chances of being involved in a collision are increased exponentially when riding after dark, so I cut my ride short as I could see that the sun was setting, and went straight home. I've still got a fridge full of icy cold beers from before I realised the dangers of alcohol consumption, so I enjoyed another delicious glass of water, remembering not to overdo it, as I'd read somewhere that if I drank too much water, I could wash all the natural salts out of my system, which can be quite dangerous.

I decided to go to bed, as lack of sleep can cause all sorts of medical issues, but I first walked around the house and unplugged every appliance, just to make sure that there was nothing that would cause a fire and kill me in my sleep. Of course I double checked that all my doors and windows were locked first, reducing the risk of a home invasion more than makes up for a little discomfort, for sure.

That was yesterday. What a fcuking boring waste of a day! Today I'm gonna just throw on a helmet and burn up the highway, stop at a pub and woof down a pint or two of icy cold cider, like I usually do, and if I die I won't be reading this thread, so I won't give a fcuk what anyone thinks! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

And if you studied the expression on his face in the stills that we have of him doing that stunt, you might wonder if he didn't expect it. Probabilty will get ya almost every time.

To answer an earlier question, Yes I have stood on my seat pegged at 80mph on a cm250 while passing my buddy who was standing on the pegs of his Harley. At the next stop/takeoff my throttle cable broke and I had to unsheathe the cable and operate the carb manually for a 20 mile ride that ended with a cruise through Phoenix. Try it some time.

If it had broken while I was standing on the seat holding the throttle wide open with no helmet on I'd be a stain on the highway.

Hey That makes total sense. I curled mine around my hand and rested That on my leg then just rolled my wrist like a throttle. The first time coming to a stop was a tire dragging hell ride and the first take off was nearly a one handed wheelie, but after that you kinda get used to it.

my 1978 cb750 I had up to 85mph, at 8500 feet elevation, Dowd junction Colorado in 2008.

My 2001 Suzuki gsxr I rode at 120 everyday; when I was out by grand junction Colorado I was doing 120 and did a rollon up to round 160. I did it a 2nd time and rolled on to 176mph held it forwhat seemed like a minute or two, but was probably 20 seconds.

At full lean on the gsxr I did around 80mph

Cr250 calculate the mass falling of a cliff that's how fast I went on a on a CR250.

No apologies necessary. Not everyone is up to "stunting" their wife  ;D ;D ;D ;D Now I wouldn't mind dying while performing that particular stunt, and if Terry did in fact meet his demise,  I would bestow great honor to him and still not have any empathy for him. 8)

See how that works, Terry! And here you thought I was pious and heart-hearted this whole time  :)

Ha ha, I think you mean "Hard Hearted" Cal, but anyway, you raise an interesting point. Your take on this whole thread is that basically, we're all fools for exceeding the speed limit (in some cases by a goodly sum) so none of us deserve any sympathy if we meet our demise in the process.

I contend that riding a motorcycle fast is as much fun as you can have sitting up, and while riding your wife sounds like a lot of fun too, (especially if she gives me a pair of your boots as payment for services to your long suffering wife afterwards) it's possibly just as, or even perhaps more dangerous? Knowing how everyone and his dog likes to carry guns in your neck of the woods, I think I'd just stick to riding really fast?

But my point (and thanks for waiting) is that you would be happy dying in some carnal activity, while I'd be happy enough to end my current existence buried in the grill of a Mack truck like my mate Huey did, so really, if we all leave our mortal coil doing something (or someone) that we love, where's the harm? Cheers, Terry.

As for dying in the midst of carnal activities, if its in the privacy of your own home, well that's hardly a public place.

Ha!  In my place we decided better not to, since my wife is not able to roll me off  ;D ;D

Joke:

This old lady is describing how her husband died in bed making love to her:

It was quite simple really, he came - and he went. ;)

There is no harm, Terry. I just simply wouldn't have empathy for someone who met their demise doing something foolish (by their own choice) that is also rather illegal. My grievance with motorists (2 or 4 wheeled) who go flying up the roadway at unsafe speeds is not that they endanger their lives, but they endanger others lives. And they do so needlessly with wanton disregard for other's safety.

A public roadway is not a place to get your Ya-Ya's out. Want to go fast? Go to a track with your vehicle, like others do. I like to ride fast too so I spent time going round a proper piece of pavement. But I have too much respect for other people's lives and well-being to be so selfish and narcissistic to whack a throttle or smash a peddle and put them in danger. Not to mention the traffic snag caused by the response of the clean-up crew. And public roadways are not designed for these speeds on a bike, or in a car. Which is way many dolts wreck.

As for dying in the midst of carnal activities, if its in the privacy of your own home, well that's hardly a public place.

And I'm far less afraid of the "rednecks and their dogs" near me who carry guns. They use them responsibly whilst in public.
I live in a state that takes up 78 thousand square miles but is home to only 2 million people. Lot of EMPTY highway around here. When common sense is used there is noone in danger but the rider and maybe a deer.

We also have tracks :P :P At these tracks, there are spectators. I'm sure you are going to say they chose to be there. How bout little sally or little timmy that got dragged along with dad or mom and let's say they HATE going to the track. What if sally and timmy get wiped off the map by a drag car or a bike flying into the stands? Are you going to have empathy for their parents? Or will you tell them they are irresponsible for bringing their children to sanctioned racing event and that the death of their children was their own fault? Regardless you just shouldn't act that way and if you did you might find out the hard way why you don't act that way.

Your money must really have you wrapped up tight and snuggly.

The only 'dolt' here is the one making assumptions and looking down on everyone.

You continually want to wade into a conversation between others,
This is a public forum, genius. If you want to have a private conversation, there is a feature for that.

to express your discord with their perspectives.
Nope, just yours.

Its a bit intrusive,
To you, because logic shatters your glass house.

and I find it odd that you feel compelled to defend your choices.
Really? What choice was it that I made? Or are you STILL making assumptions? That's rhetorical.

As you stated early on, "You don't care what others think"
Never once said that. Don't quote people if you can't comprehend their communication. Anything in quotations should be a direct quote or it could be considered libel.

so why then, all the vitriol? Perhaps you find more delight in friction than your own liberty?
This is clearly a projection. I have not criticized anything but your ignorant criticism. Harsh has not even begun. With your finger hovering over the 'somebody get me a moderator and a tissue' button, that probably wont happen, so keep hangin on.

I don't know, and frankly am not worried about it.
Yes, I can tell.

But I do find it humorous.
I'll be here all week, try the veal.

I just hit a calf at 140 and we need to get rid of this meat. Don't forget to tip your waiter as you look down your nose at him.

Notice this 'man' had no answer to the hypothetical, only another pompous and worthless retort as usual.

Seriously? As you said yourself this is a public forum, and nobody gives a flying #$%* about your bull#$%*. Your "high and mighty" attitude is, quite frankly, revolting to read. If you haven't noticed you're the only one arguing with anybody here, and with most of your whining stemming from you not being able to take constructive criticism. Time to get off your high horse buddy and learn to chill out when some have a different opinion than yours.
