I feel your pain.  My greatest struggle was the bottom pulley flange bolt. 

The pulley bolt was stubborn, but finally succumbed to the impact driver after eliminating the extension and using just the socket on the impact. The power steering belt proved my biggest hurdle since the pump would not swing the full extent of the slotted bracket coming up about 1/4" to 3/8" short. The pump housing was hitting the pump pivot bracket before reaching the full extent of the slotted bracket. I thought maybe I had the wrong belt at first, but both belts showed the same part number on the belt. I had to remove the pivot bracket from the engine and grind enough clearance off the pivot bracket for the pump body to get a full swing. The old belt must have been on the long side of manufacturing tolerance while the new belt must have been on the short side. Toyota usually does a better job on their engineering efforts...

And my cam was between teeth on the belt - and I made a wrong choice.  It ran, but the timing was too retarted and the mpg went through the roof.

Saw a few burning cars, all hybrids or full electric except maybe one in Phoenix Jan 1st...
It was only in the engine bay area so it likely was an international combustion engine, was a nice looking car before the funeral pyre flames reaching 20 feet into the air became roasting the vehicle. No one was near the vehicle and Fire hadn't been dispatched yet but Police were aware of the activity by the time the 911 operator stepped me through first doing fire and if needed EMS. Was parked beside I-10E bound near an overpass on one of the exits near Chandler. Yeah, they can rebuild it, not...it's beyond toast. Several electrics along I20 in full engulfed and firetruck pumpers pouring the water in them while the lithium batteries belched toxic black pyres into the skies. The smoke is likely going to killing anyone who would inhale more than 4 times that black acrid toxic mess if they got that close. The police present and traffic reducing from 65 or 75 to 25 to 30 as the water streaming across the roadway like a river was a huge hazard...
Of course all of them getting water dumped in them no longer had any windows as the heat and water caused them to explode like bombs if the fire hadn't breached them already. The ones I find interesting and kinda amusing are the initial fires before a fire truck arrives, the interior is on fire first as the battery packs are beneath you.  So the car guts it's luxury interior first...even if you could put it out, an interior fire will total the car unless put out in the first minute and even then I am gonna bet many get totalled even then. Had a coworker with a Pontiac Fiero GT get flooded in her apartment complex in Columbus Ohio years ago, the car had water up to the bottom of the dash. The insurance company paid to repair it and it like most flood cars are nothing but trouble after that...they aren't Jeep off road built vehicles enthusiast will strip and build to ford creeks and rivers and other outrageous things because they can and are a bit crazy...
It isn't like in Africa and other countries around the world where you do that kind of small or not so small river fording because that's the only way to get there...

You are right. Mpg dropped through the floor.   .  From 300+ on tank to 150 or so.

You are right. Mpg dropped through the floor.   .  From 300+ on tank to 150 or so. 

It is a commit used expression and misused I knew what you meant but it struck me if it improved immensely at the cost of being almost inoperable... Usually the mpg crashes to the depths when you go out side the recommended range of timing values has been my experience when I screw up something. The potential for engine damage is there on interference car motors and our bikes are interference designed motors.
An old  car I owned wouldn't crash the valves and do head damage if the timing belt broke. It was nice not to have that expense if something went pearshaped or you forgot to do the belt every 60k miles as recommended. Never had a belt break in me but read many cases where those neglected or busy folks got but by it, the retaining the distributor's ntermediate shaft, the crank, and the camshaft in the OHC design was a pain but your error wasn't criticized by that forum crowd, just tried to be helpful and gave instructions on easy methods to fet everything back in time. I have trouble with sharp angles you were confined to for that problem would be solved by a large mechanics inspection mirror on a rigid collapsible wand. That was how I made sure I wasn't putting the intermediate shaft a tooth out or the crank. The OHC camshaft was very easily seen and accessed. Simple motor design but not a ton of HP and torque.
WS a forgiving design to learn how to work on cars and scratch the itch of working with my hands...

Yep, we love having a variety of bikes to choose from when it's time to ride. We have a great selection of bikes to pick from and every one of them is fun to ride in it's own way. I believe that many people miss out on some awesome bikes because they are overly brand/ bike specific loyal.
Broaden your horizons and you will be surprised and happy with what you find. I've seen brand loyalists so stubborn that they won't even try a different bike. Sometimes I think that they are afraid that they might like it better than the bike they've put on the pedestal.

Never hurts to do your research as many bikes were real dogs and a bad idea to try to resurrect as they were problem childs with known issues on electrical components or handling, etc.
Vintage bikes with sucky brakes compared to modern bikes is but one issue in some vintage machines. As long as you ride the vintage bike with due caution it works, problem is in city traffic the asshats will take your stopping buffer almost Everytime and be a jerk to you if you try to educate them. People don't give a #$%* about your safety or your buffer zones you try to maintain around you. I've had an #$%* in a Mercedes Benz Gwagin SUV be less than 5 feet from my rear tire while riding one city street in Tucson. He would not back off and I was doing 15mph over as was the guy behind me. I wanted to do physical harm to him as Zi motioned for him to back off and he would not. You want to beat these people to an inch of their life as they will kill you if you hit something you don't see as they don't have reactions that are that good, despite their inflated entitlement and sense of superiority. Those people need to die from their choices but they will not. Few people get me angry like those entitled rich #$%*s. Sorry this isn't the pissed off thread...

I'd like to see many of them lose their entitled attitudes;same here.
