Changed the bars for a Renthal super bike set. Should save my back somewhat. Got lucky and all the custom short cables made for the flat bars work OK.  Ordered a Yosh copy 4-1 for it.  The police are doing db checks, and it wouldn't have passed with the 4-4 mega's.
You.l probably have more issues with the 4:1 then. They tend to be much louder  :(
the Yosh might be loud...but an sohc4 with 4 open megas is really fargin LOUD, ear splitting loud, sonic reducer loud, women and children running and crying loud, grown men gnashing their teeth loud...
If it works good, it looks good...

At least now the Harleys will get stopped for the db check, not me. ;)

Re-re-routed the fuel lines.

Airbox mod.

Also built myself a new fuse panel for ATC fuses. No pics, though... all tucked away now!

Got some final touchups done on my headers. All black again now! Going to properly bake on the paint this time.

Just waiting on a shorter clutch cable from Motion Pro...stuck in Cali right now. Hope it makes it's way to the east coast soon! Also I've been looking into getting an English wheel to try my hand at making a new seat with a hump. Should be fun!

Started to sort wiring in headlight bucket for good.  Now that's a sixpack job if I ever saw one.

Do yourself a future favour and buy some of those little stick-on numbers for all the connections.  If you ever have to go back in makes life simple. ;)

Picked up most of my engine today.
Got it ported, lapped, milled and cleaned. It got a new matte black finish, top to bottom.
Can't wait to start building this thing back up! Any pitfalls to look out for?

If you're going to use the 8 cylinder dowels between the jugs and head, make sure they're not any taller than the surface of the jugs. If you had the surface honed, they may stick out and make difficulty sealing the head gasket.

Holy crap the head is pretty !! ^^   Was just going to say I have rode my everyday rider I worked on a little this winter and throw up some pics for you voyeurs. New tapered  steering bearings, fork seals, fork boots, correct front turn signal stems, tach seal,, 12 pack, couple bottles of hooch, cleaned front brake, set tappets, more wood in the woodstove, another drink,  new plugs, pull carbs and clean, more booze while spraying K&N filter. Probably more I forgot. Still needs waxing. Was thinking about bolting up some stock pipes but they interfere with my nylon bags not pictured. Bike runs good on to the next. Hit my crusty Z1 and the 750 so far this spring on the road and am shooting for a quickie spin on my unfamiliar GS 1000 next sittin' by the front door. Only got like 4 miles on it so far. Gonna be a busy summer and some things have to got to go also, like some bikes and get my truck out of storage to move thing around!!  Hello Spring.

Those are a few but I have enough blankets to maybe open a shelter someday, most bikes get one. Keep them covered and cozy and clean for the next owner someday and less polishing for me.  My old German Shorthair here at the house likes a binky on it also at night.   :D

Today I figured out why the LED lamps in my rear turn signals cross talk!

Honda saved a few yen by using on unusual circuit on the dash board turn signal indicator lamp.  Just attached the RH & LH hot connections to each side of the indicator bulb, knowing the lamp would ground thru the filament of the non flashing turn signal lamp.   :) :o

Remove the bulb and the turn signals with LED's and a  electronic relay work just fine.

Ha, now I just need to set up a separate circuit to flash the bulb; Air Force B.E.T.  paying dividends.

Ordered a new dashboard harness fro Z1 enterprises, and some LED indicator lamps from evilbay.

Might as well go in whole hog!

Oh and I filed my taxes... ::) :(

Did "The Works" tank treatment in the morning.  Filled her to the neck and road about 70 miles in the afternoon.  This 'new to me' 550 runs really nice.  But, man if I run her at 4K revs and over, I feel like the swiss cheese HM323's are going to rattle apart.  Absolutely love the look of the original 4-4's, but I might have to install my 4-1 sooner than planned.  I hear these 550's love to be revved, but I haven't even hit 5K on the tach yet.  Am I missing out?  Also, I checked mileage and I ran 36 with most of the miles at 65 (3,500 rpm in 5th) on the highway.  How normal is this?  (550K2)

Anyways, here are a couple before and after picks of "The Works."

Good job cleaning the tank.   You should get 45 to 50 mpg and the bike should rev way higher than 5k.  Check the air filter box for obstructions or a dirty filter...Larry

Larry, it will rev over 5k, but I haven't had it that high on the road due to the rusted out exhaust. Next, I plan on checking timing, tappets, points, air etc to see if I can squeeze another 10 mpg out of her. I appreciate the input! Nice to know I should be getting better mileage. It was seriously windy too, so that probably played a role. - Kyle

No, I wanted to use something that would work a little quicker, so I used "the works" toilet bowl cleaner method. This method is posted everywhere, but these were my steps:

1) removed petcock, poured old gas out, & dried up tank with compressed air.
2) plugged holes with rubber stoppers from HD
3) poured in 3 bottles of "the works"
4)  shook tank every 5 minutes resting it on different sides for about a half hour.
5) got cleaner out and quickly neutralized with baking soda/water mix
6) ran warm water through the tank pouring out both petcock & filler holes for about 5 minutes
7) poured water out as quickly as possible then poured a can of denatured alcohol in, swished around for a few minutes to soak up moisture.
8 ) dumped out alcohol and blasted tank with compressed air.
9) once completely dry, I fogged with wd40, then sloshed some gas around. Dumped out gas and poured in another bit of gas and sloshed around... Dumped. (This step was probably unnecessary)
10) installed petcock, filled to the neck with 91 octane & a shot of seafoam and went riding.

Whole process only took about an hour. No pinholes... everybody is happy!
