Purchased a NOS candy ruby red battery side cover for my 750K1 from DSS tonight.

So far I have been able to purchase the following NOS parts: right fork cover, headlight bucket, battery side cover and oil tank side cover.  Now all I am missing is the elusive left fork cover which I missed because I took a day off.

Thanks Mike for the link.

Harry is it in poor taste to ask how much DSS is charging for those elusive hard to find NOS sidecovers ?  They sure fetch good money on E-bay when they pop up.   Eric

NOS may be what you want, for a true restoration, etc. Be aware however, that true NOS may be very old and possibly very brittle. Mine are like crackers and I have retired them in favor of soft replacements from Frankenstuff.

Eric,

The oil tank cover was about $95.00 twelve months ago and the battery side cover was $150.00 this week.  They are gradually (maybe more than gradual) going up in price.  DSS must have opened a new box of parts because they had a tank, left fork cover,  and headlight bucket on Monday morning, and the battery side cover on Tuesday morning.  These were all on the UK site.  I have put several parts I want on their e-mail notification list.  I was a little late Monday replying to their e-mail to get the left fork cover.

The worst thing now with DSS is you have to check both the US and UK sites. ::)  They do not carry all of the same parts ... at least now.

I do have a set of Frankie's covers ... but I would have to get paint shipped to the border (they won't ship dangerous goods across the border by mail or courier), pick the paint up at my US mailbox, and then get them painted.  The NOS covers still feel pliable so I will give them a try first.  For now they appear to be the least expensive option.

Hmmm .... I seem to have become a parts collector (hoarder) ... I have a basement full of stuff now  :'(

Harry O.

Harry: Interesting about your paint dilemma. As to the NOS covers, if they've been in a plastic bag all these years, they could still retain some softeners.

I replaced the clutch plates, springs (replaced with heavy duty EBC items) and cable on my little CX500. It works fine (I've only ridden around my local streets tonight so I can't check for slippage until tomorrow or Sunday) but the shiny new cable is already on it's maximum adjustment? WTF? I suppose I can machine up a spacer to take up some of the slack, but it pisses me off that I bothered buying a new cable for no good reason? Poop! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

That does look nice and puffy, should have the red foam inside. I have seen some that made me giggle, look flat almost like a tire that someone let all the air out of.

That is a fair price on those covers Harry I think. Sunlight, temperature extremes etc do not do our sidecovers any favors after 40 years, luckily yours were in a more controlled environment hopefully. Pics when your done !!

Finally got my frame back to Scotland from Saudi Arabia.  After the problems getting the engine out of Saudi last year, I boxed the frame and called it a bicycle turbo trainer and got it back as extra baggage as sporting goods! 75 dollars

Took apart the F2 front. Brakes are in basic components to be painted and assembled, forks are drained and back together. All in decent shape, brake pistons need some polishing.

Covered 170 miles on the latest project bike without my shins getting a hot oil bath! Matter of fact, it appears as though ALL of the oil has finally been convinced to remian INSIDE the engine!  8)
