The primary goal for this build was just above a "driver level" restoration as defined here:

but definitely short of a "show quality" restoration. The intention was for 100% functionality that was easy on the eyes.

I think I nailed it...   8)


If I can find the box I put that switch in then it's yours, I've got no use for it. If I remember correctly, the plug might have been cut off the end of it, but we won't know for sure until I find it!

The tank was used and already painted. I really like the copper flames over gloss black. It's not perfect, but I like it. I may even use that same color scheme on a future build.

Thanks. Not too sure about the "fast" part though... I started this build back in January of 2012!  :o

Of course, I got sidetracked for a while and did a similar "Driver Level" restoration on a 78 CB750F, that looked like it needed a lot less work than this one did. Boy was I wrong! Then I picked up a 97' Suburban and ended up having to do all the long term maintenance in one long, drawn out effort (it too looked like it needed a lot less work than was actually required).

There was also about a six week delay getting the pistons properly fitted. The next build will have fewer interruptions!  8)

Well, was not able to generate any interest on the local craigslist, so the Evolution project has de-volved to potentially appeal to a broader audience. A few of the upgrades were reverted back to stock.

Not much. The custom "flamed" tank was replaced with a stock tank sporting original paint, Dyna S swapped for points/condensers, aftermarket heavy duty shocks replaced with a set of what appear to be stock type (but still functional) units, the chrome chain guard from an "F" bike replaced with correct painted black "K" chain guard, the left plastic side cover is a Maier piece painted to match the right side stock plastic stock cover, and the newly restored (and reinforced) seat replaced with a used seat from some guy in Texas...
