Just a side stand? WTF? Your side stand is an important item Steve! If it wasn't for your side stand, you'd have to lie your bike on it's side or lean it up against a wall, or a tree, or hire someone to hold it up while you're not riding it! Wow, now I've heard everything! ;D

I have never had a Honda steel sidestand not spreadout or bend..
Ergo, not holding out much hope for an alloy one to do better..

Well yes and no Frank. If the owner is/was some huge fat bastarrd that thinks it's cool to stand on the pegs and kick start his bike, then I wouldn't hold out a great deal of hope for an alloy (much less a steel) stand, but if the stand is used for it's intended purpose, i.e., propping up a bike, then it should be fine.

The one in the pic is a used one that was on a high mileage bike, and had seen around 3 years service, with no obvious bending, fracturing, etc. I'll let you know if my bike falls over though, probably in the "pissed off" thread...... ;D

Back in the day when centre stands were a no no you would prop the bike up on the side stand and put a jack or milk crate under the r/h side so you could take the rear wheel off. Now that'll bend em.
Also I reckon tyres today are taller making the bike lean over more on the stand, that'll bend em as well. If you weld some extra metal on the base so the bike stands upright a bit more the stands last a lot longer.
But then I'm sure every expert around here knows that n I'm wonderin why I even bothered  :P

Hey don't sweat it Nic, there's no limit on personal opinions in this thread, everyone's opinion is welcome! I've never bent a side stand, but I've bought plenty of bikes with bent side stands, I don't have any Oxygen in my oxy/acetylene welder or I'd just heat a bent one up and straighten it, but buying a new stand from Yamiya is cheaper than renting another bottle of oxy......... ;D

Well it's been pissing down rain on and off for the last couple of days so I haven't touched the bike build (I need to buy and install some clear PVC "Cafe Blinds" to make my Patio workshop a bit more comfy) so instead I've been buying more parts.

I had a bugger of a time finding a spoke set for the 16" rear "Hog Rim" that I'll be mating to the manky hub that came with the K0. (not a K0 hub) In the good ole days, these spoke kits were everywhere for cheap, but last night all I could find was a kit from Buchanan's for $128, and I wasn't sure if they'd ship internationally, and if they did, how much for shipping?

Anyway, while I was thinking about it, I saw a new stainless set on Ebay USA, for $37.75 USD. Bargain! Shipping was a bit expensive I thought at $53.05, but what the hell, still way cheaper than Buchanans, so did the "Buy it now" thing. Well much to my surprise, I woke up this morning (which is always a good start) and there was a paypal refund of $15 USD, and a note from the seller apologising for over charging me for the shipping? What a top bloke! I'd already paid for the shipping, so expected nothing but my spokes.

I've met so many good folks thru my various motorcycle infatuations, but I'm always surprised just the same when someone goes "Above and beyond". The seller's name is Tom Rhodes and his ebay handle is "triumphwizard", and he'll be getting some excellent feedback when I receive my spokes. Thanks Tom! ;D

Ha ha, no, my forebears arrived in Australia in chains, they were Irish rebels against the British government, so even though the Confederacy was supported by the British in the US Civil War, I don't share the love........ ;D

Terry, I bought an old side stand from UK, an eBay shop that import a lot of junk bikes from USA they parting out. The side stand was slightly bent so I ordered a NEW one from Yamiya of their own replica fabrication. I have not used it yet, it's for my K2.
I thought the side stands were bent to fit a bike with long fork.

It can be a well grown redneck that has bent it when kick starting the bike?
I have done that a lot without bending the side stand, only the upper part where the bolt is has widened a little. But my weight was probably half of a well grown guy or even less when that happened.

Yeah mate, I'm a huge fat redneck, but tall enough that I don't need to stand on the pegs when I kick start a bike, even my XR500RE, which is at least a foot (30cm) higher than a CB750. The side stand that came off my K0 looks like it was left down permanently when "Bubba", the (real) redneck PO, was riding it up and down Brokeback Mountain......... ;D

What happened Bobby? "[ Invalid YouTube link ]"? Anyhoo, no physical progress this weekend, apart from realising that I have a matching front 19 inch rim to match the 16 inch "Hog" rear rim that I'll be lacing the rear hub to, so I dug thru a tub and found a really good front hub.

I've got a set of custom spokes which are supposed to be for a CB750 front wheel but I'm not 100% sure that they are, so I'll compare them to the Yamiya spokes that are (hopefully) arriving this week, and if they are, I'll loosely lace them up and then take them over to Jeff at Ace Motorcycles to true, and fit some new tyres to.

Being the true redneck that I am, I just couldn't bear spending 50 bucks or so for the two OEM battery cables I need, so when I drove the 200 miles to my home town yesterday to visit my Ma, I stopped in at the local Auto Parts store to buy some cable and some connectors. They were having a "20% off store wide" sale, so the opportunity to save even more money presented itself, and I was a bit surprised when I walked out of the store $150 poorer, but hell, my battery leads are gonna be way better than those expensive store bought ones! (maybe.............)     

I did think about starting the wiring today, but after the 200 mile return drive back home, I'm tired, it's cold outside, and my big comfy chair looks way too comfy, so I'll wait until my new throttle/handlebar switch and cheap arse chinese AGM battery arrive. I've got a new wiring harness already, and as much as I'd prefer breathing life back into a crappy old original one, because I'm building this bike from the ground up with parts I've bought from different sources, I didn't have a harness to start with.

I'm thinking about a solid state regulator/rectifier now. I installed one on my last bike (the one I traded for my RC51) and it worked well. I do have some spare OEM items here and I've never really had an issue with them, so the redneck in me says to just keep on trucking, but I do like to improve things where practical. Then there's the twin carb conversion, which I hope works better than it did last time, but that's another story. Hmmnn, time for a nap.......... ;D

Ahhhhh, Photobucket just bit you in yer ass too! I got my "official" notice from them a few days back. They just so happened to notice I use their site to host pictures here. Blackmailed for some money to show you guys pictures. Guess I need to find time to do Flickr now whatever that involves. Copy and paste the entire account probably can't happen but PB will still 'let' me stire photos there just not share a link on a site. Or maybe it's because we're rednecks?!

Copy and paste the entire account probably can't happen but PB will still 'let' me stire photos there just not share a link on a site. Or maybe it's because we're rednecks?!

Scrap Photobucket or similar that will make the important photos unavailable. Crop the image to focus on the vital part, compress it to smaller size on disk and upload it into the post. 100-300 kB  is usually OK, sometimes less.

Microsoft Picture Manager 2010 is perfect for this, shipped with Office 2010 and no longer available if you do not have the Office 2010. This is the best program for editing photos for my use, not 1 milion way to edit a photo and the most basic functions hidden behind several steps of stupid and not intuitive steps.

Thanks Per, I fcuked around all day signing up with AliExpress, found some "bargains", went to order, and then saw how long they would take to get here with their "Free" shipping (or worse, how much it was gonna cost to get them sent here faster) so I gave up and ordered a rec/reg from an ebay seller in the US that will (hopefully) arrive next week.

It was cheap (28 bucks USD) and shipping wasn't bad (21 bucks) so as long as it works as well as the one I retro-fitted to my K1, it'll be fine, and it'll leave some space for the (very rare) fixed Vacuum gauge I bought 17 or 18 years ago, and have never installed. Cheers, Terry. ;D
